Windows 11 24H2 is about to receive a new secret feature called “Speak for Me.” This feature, developed by Microsoft, allows users to hear text input in a natural and realistic way. Unlike the robotic voices used by most voice assistants, “Speak for Me” offers a more human voice, which can also be customized to resemble one’s own voice.
What is “Speak for Me” and how does it work?
At the moment, “TalkforMe” is not directly accessible in Windows 11 Build 26063, but you can enable it by making some changes to the operating system. Basically, this feature allows you to create a synthetic voice that reads text similar to the user’s voice or a preferred type of voice.
To use “Speak for Me,” follow these steps:
- Search for “Speak for me” in the Start menu and select the “Select a natural voice” option. You can also choose the “My Personal Voice” option to create a custom voice avatar.
- Select a language from the list and choose a voice type. For example, if you chose English (India), you may have several options such as “Microsoft Neerja” to select a voice that sounds natural for that region.
- Customize the feature by naming the voice and listening to a preview of the sound. If you are satisfied with the quality, click “Download and Install.”
- On the next screen you can customize voice parameters such as speed, pitch, and volume to suit your speaking style.
Once you have completed these steps, you can type in the desired text and click the “Speak” button to have it read aloud. As soon as activated, the function produces a surprisingly natural voice.
You can also use the key combination Windows + Ctrl + T to quickly start “Speak for me.”
