Hogwarts Legacy Might Not Have Quidditch

A few months ago a certain rumor started circulating around the internet, a rumor that would make any Harry Potter fan sulk in disappointment. Hogwarts Legacy, the upcoming open-world RPG based on the renowned wizarding saga by J.K. Rowling, might not include the iconic sport of Quidditch.

In this article, we’ll try to discover whether Quidditch won’t be in Hogwarts Legacy, or if this is only a baseless rumor!

What is Hogwarts Legacy about?

Before we get to the gist of the article, let’s have a brief chat about Hogwarts Legacy first, for those who don’t know about the game.

Developed by Avalanche Software (Disney Infinity, Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Toy Story 3) and published by Portkey Games, Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world single-player action-RPG set in the Harry Potter universe. The title will be released in December 2022 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

The period is late 1800s and you, the player, will impersonate a fifth year student at Hogwarts. Now, the most thrilling aspect of the game is probably the exploration.

In fact, the game’s storyline and events will give you the perfect opportunity to explore the magic world far and wide. The premises are exciting to say the least: locations such as the Forbidden Forest, Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade Village will be explorable, but also the Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw common rooms, areas that are yet unseen visually in other Harry Potter media.

Players will also be able to attend classes, such as Defence Against the Dark Arts, Charms, Potions and Herbology.

While creating your character, you can decide their appearance, gender and house. Of course, you’ll get to do all the fun things wizards do, meaning casting spells, brewing potions and even befriending and riding magical beasts, like hippogriffs and thestrals.

It is true that semi-open-world Harry Potter games have been released before, but Hogwarts Legacy feels much bigger and comprehensive than any of them.

Is Quidditch going to be in the game or not?

Now, it hasn’t been confirmed whether the wizarding world’s favorite flying broom-based sport will be playable in Hogwarts Legacy. But since the trailers for the game don’t show any Quidditch matches, the chances of it being included seem pretty slim.

Quidditch is among the Harry Potter franchise’s hallmarks, an iconic emblem of the series. Scenes dedicated to the sport take up entire chapters of the books and a considerable runtime within the movies.

Even older Harry Potter games often included Quidditch sequences, however clunky and sloppy they were.

Therefore, not having Quidditch will leave a bad taste in many players’ mouths.

Avalanche has made it known that the player will be able to ride a broom, but this will supposedly be usable only to travel between locations and explore certain areas. Flying competitions and lessons will also be available.

But the studio hasn’t said a thing about the presence or absence of Quidditch. I suspect, and surely I’m not alone in thinking this, that the sport itself will only be available as a DLC.

Well, all we can do now is to wait for eventual announcements!
