To enrich the decoration of your house with a personal and useful touch at the same time, we will detail in this article how you can create your own candle holders and your own plant pots.

To both decorative elements you can add a personal detail that makes them unique, and they will also be very useful. The candle holder can be used to provide lighting to a special space in your home, or to light the candle corresponding to some ritual. For its part, the planter can add an additional decoration to your garden and can also be used to plant your special plants, such as rosemary.

Manufacture of a concrete candle holder

In principle we indicate the material you need to create your candle holder:

  • Concrete or cement powder
  • Container for mixing concrete
  • Remover to mix the concrete
  • Various currencies
  • Cooking oil or petroleum jelly
  • Two plastic containers, one larger than the other but with the same shape.

These containers will be used as molds.

  • Fine-grit sandpaper
  • Pliers or pliers

In the market you can also find pre-made molds to create your candle holders or flower pots.

Process:

  • To start you must smear the inside of the largest plastic container with oil or petroleum jelly. This will help you remove the container from the concrete, once your candle holder is ready.
  • In the container to mix the concrete, prepare enough mix to fill the mold already smeared with oil. Follow the directions on the concrete to create the mix.
  • Pour the cement mixture into the mold, without overflowing it.
  • Smear the outside of the smallest container or mold with oil or petroleum jelly. Fill it with the coins to make weight, and then insert the container into the concrete until the edge of the container is level with the edge of the large mold. Take care that the small mold is centered and that the weight of the coins keep it in position.
  • Let everything sit for twenty-four hours.
  • After twenty-four hours you can unmold your candle holder. Remove the outer mold first, then the inner mold. In case you require it, you can use the pliers or pliers to remove the inner mold.
  • Once the molds are removed, let the candle holder dry for about twelve hours.
  • At the end of this time, you can polish or touch up your candle holder with the help of sandpaper. You can also add some detail as an ornament and it is ready to use.

You can differentiate your candle holders with some special drawing or detail. For example, you can use a heart drawing if you are going to use the candle holder in some love ritual.

Elaboration of flower pots with concrete

To start we indicate the elements you need to create your planter:

  • Concrete or cement powder
  • Container for mixing concrete
  • Remover to mix the concrete
  • Cooking oil or petroleum jelly
  • Two plastic containers, one larger than the other but with the same shape.

These containers will be used as molds.

  • Three pieces of PVC pipe of 2.54 cm.
  • Fine-grit sandpaper

Process:

  • Firstly, you must smear the inner face of the larger mold container, and the outer face of the small mold, with the oil or petroleum jelly.

In case the containers you use as a mold are made of wood, you should use wax paste to spread them.

  • Cut at least two to three pieces of 1 inch (2.54 cm) PVC pipe. The pieces of pipe, which will be used to create the drain holes for the cement pots, must be two inches long.

  • Put on a pair of gloves to protect your hands from the cement mix. Mix the fast setting cement following the directions on the package. If desired, add the cement color at this point.

  • Pour 2 inches (5 cm) of the concrete mix into the large container. Nail the pieces of the PVC pipe into the cement, leaving 7 to 10 cm (3 to 4 inches) between each piece. Smooth out the cement around the pipes, make sure it doesn’t cover the pipe as the pipes must be open to create the drain holes.

  • Carefully place the small container on top of the cement in the center of the large container. Apply pressure to the small container into the cement until the bottom of the small container is an inch or an inch and a half from the bottom of the large container.

  • Finish adding the concrete mix into the space between the large and small container. Gently tap the container onto a hard surface to allow the cement to settle, then add more cement to fill the entire container. Smooth the cement surface with a spatula.

  • Let the concrete set for at least 24 hours, then remove the small container to uncover your pot. Wet the cement pot a little with a spray bottle filled with cold water. Do not remove the large container.

  • Cover the dementum pot with a large piece of plastic wrap and allow the concrete to set for one week. Wet the cement pot when necessary to keep the cement moist.

  • Tap the bottom of the cement pot gently but firmly with the palm of your hand to separate the pot from the container, then remove the container from the cement pot.

  • Clean the large and small container to remove the cement mixture. Containers can be used to make more cement pots.
