Each user of PlayStation Network (PSN) has a unique ID and password associated with a valid email address that is used by PSN to verify, protect and update important information. Sometimes, the management of and user account could have common sign in problems to access, that can be solved by following simple steps.
If you forgot your sign-in ID (email address) for PSN
- Search in your email inboxes, including any junk or spam folders for mails received due to PlayStation purchases. Or you may take a look at the service accounts linked to your PSN account, because the email you used to associate those services may also be the one that you used on your PSN. If you find the email address you used to set up the account, then proceed to reset your password.
If you forgot your PlayStation Network password
You can reset it from the web or on your PSN console, following the next steps:
- From the PS home screen or login page go to the Account Management and select “Trouble Signing” in, then Reset your password and enter your login ID which is the email address you have registered as user.
- Check your email inbox for the verification email, making sure to search in all mailboxes, including any spam or junk folders. Click the link within the email or copy and paste the URL into an internet browser. You may wait a few minutes to receive the verification email. It is possible that you have not entered your email address correctly. Repeat the steps to reset your password and make sure that the email address indicated on the “Forgot your password?” screen is the one you use to log in to your account.
- Follow the secure link, enter the requested information to verify your identity.
- Create a new password. Don’t forget to use a combination of upper and lower-case letters, numbers and special characters.
- You will receive an email to confirm the password change, and you can sign in with a new password. If you can’t provide the verification information for your account or open the password reset email, you will need to contact PlayStation Support.
- Once you have successfully changed your password, sign out on all devices that have been used to log into your account. This can be done by clicking on “Security” in the left menu of your profile.
If you know your username and password, but still can’t sign-in
- Try searching in your email inbox for PlayStation verifies and clicks the link in the email to verify your sign-in ID.
- Check if your PS system software needs an updating according to your console.
- Try turning off and on your console, or change from Wi-Fi to a wired internet connection.
- If you cannot access to your account and see an error code when attempting to sign in to PSN, you have may been suspended. Check your email for any temporary or permanently PlayStation suspension for an account debt or any other reason.
- If your account has been phished, you have an unauthorized transaction, or you have received emails of placed orders in PlayStation Store, change your Online ID and your password, disassociate the email or change its password.
If you are having issues receiving a message or code for verification
- 2 Step verification Error Guide. Sign in with your account password and select “Resend code”, select “Did Not Receive Text Message”, and finally sign in entering the Backup Code.
- If the issue is about not receiving a Verification Code, or Forgot Backup Codes, contact the PSN support team.
- Some PlayStation devices do not support the 2 Step Verification and because of that they show as incorrect password message trying to sign –in. To solve this, you need to disable 2SV to sign in and switched on once you are finished.
