Want to take a trip down memory lane that can make you relive those good times you spent as a kid, munching on cereal while watching your favorite Saturday morning cartoons? If your answer is yes, then you’d probably enjoy MythForce!
MythForce is a new action-adventure roguelite dungeon crawler RPG fueled by nostalgia. This Beamdog title is in fact heavily inspired by ’80s cartoons to the likes of Thundercats, Masters of the Universe, Dragon’s Lair and Wheeled Warriors.
The game was launched as early access on April 20 on the Epic Games Store and exclusively for Windows PC. Beamdog, the development studio behind MythForce, is best known for the three enhanced editions of the Baldur’s Gate saga and Neverwinter Nights. For MythForce, the developer opted for Unreal Engine 4, Epic Games’ high-performance engine. Both single-player and multiplayer mode are available. Gameplay-wise, Game Director Luke Rideout cited Deep Rock Galactics and Vermintide as the main references.
While the initial launch includes 4 heroes and the first episode, Bastion of the Beastlord, new characters and episodes will be added over the next few months.
What is MythForce about? A brief overview
Now, what is the game about?
MythForce is an immersive first-person fantasy adventure in which you’ll get to wield legendary weapons and powerful magic in order to smite hordes of enemies coming right at you. Dungeon-crawl your way through a colorful cartoon castle, the Castle of Evil, a magic and mysterious place that changes every time you enter it (the dungeon is procedurally generated), and uncover its secret treasures.
Try your hardest to survive in this dangerous world by avoiding the enemies and traps you’ll encounter along the way: they are all but forgiving, and can issue a death blow out of the blue! MythForce is a challenging experience after all, which undoubtedly encourages a good deal of grinding.
As already mentioned, you can decide whether to storm the fort all by yourself or in co-op mode: if you go with the latter option, up to 3 other players can join you. And if you get defeated, you’ll have to start over from the beginning. But after each death, you’ll come back a little bit stronger than before thanks to the perks you unlocked.
Who are the first 4 playable characters we can choose from? They’re the classic Dungeons&Dragons hero classes: here we have Victoria the Knight, Rico the Rogue, Maggie the Mage, and Hawkins the Hunter. These heroes will come together to form the legendary team MythForce, the only hope there is in the fight against the tyrannical vampire lord Deadalus.
