PS5 Pro: the latest rumors on release, price and technical specifications

If you are an avid gamer, you have surely heard the rumors circulating about a possible PlayStation 6, or PS5 Pro. This potential enhanced version of Sony’s console could be an evolution from the current base model, bridging the gap between the launch console and an eventual PlayStation 6. Despite the many rumors circulating on the web, we still have to take everything with a grain of salt, waiting for Sony to officially confirm the existence of the PS5 Pro.

Speculated launch window

All leaks so far have indicated a launch window for the PS5 Pro in the fall of 2024. According to these rumors, the console could probably be released between September and November. Speculation is that Sony wants to put the console on sale in conjunction with the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6, which could be the most anticipated game of the year or even the generation. The presence of the PS5 Pro on the market could boost sales, ensuring the best performance for this long-awaited title.

Speculated price

There is currently no information on the price of the PS5 Pro, but it is reasonable to assume that it will cost more than current models. We could assume an increase of at least $100 over the current price, bringing the cost to $600 or more.

Technical specifications

According to leaks from Moor’s Law is Dead, which have been confirmed by IGN and Insider Gaming, the PS5 Pro could have a computing power of 67 teraflops compared to the base unit’s 10.28 teraflops. In terms of memory, we could go from 448 GB to 576 GB and have a 10% increase in CPU speed. Tom Henderson reported that the PS5 Pro will focus mainly on ray tracing and rendering speed. It is expected to have a significant 45% increase in rendering speed and the ability to support 8K graphics. The console could offer the best visual performance at high frame rates by default, without forcing gamers to choose between graphics or performance modes.

Importantly, should the PS5 Pro be real, it will continue to run all existing PS5 games and will not have exclusive games. We may also see an improvement in PSVR2 performance, although this has not been widely discussed.
