We discussed many times on this blog how risky putting your personal information on the Internet can be. Creating a Facebook account, for instance, entails that you give your full name, email address, phone number, school or work location and so on and so forth to the platform: revealing all this information about you could result in privacy invasion on part of ill-intentioned individuals. That’s why today we’re going to have a talk about how to set up an anonymous Facebook account!
Reasons for using a burner Facebook account: privacy matters and no more filters
Using an anonymous Facebook account, as mentioned above, can help protect your privacy. It’s a great strategy for fending off cybersecurity attacks, such as data breaches, and potential stalkers. Hackers and creepy weirdos keeping tabs on your Facebook movements will actually have nothing on their hands if your account is full of false info that in no way can lead to you.
A fake Facebook account also gives you the chance of dropping the mask and being who you really are. You might have found yourself in a situation in which before hitting the “post” button you thought: “Maybe I shouldn’t post this, I don’t know how my friends on Facebook will take it”. For many people, making a daring post is out of the question due to the fear of receiving backlash of any kind. When you’re being too open and honest about your opinions, especially of the political kind, people close to you might change the way they perceive you, and usually not for the better.
If you don’t care about people judging you, then go on and do your thing. But if you’d like to have more freedom in expressing your true feelings and posting whatever you please, then this article can help you out.
Or maybe, you simply want to have a blast trolling people on the platform while protected by your anonymity status.
Just kidding, don’t do that.
Setting up your anonymous Facebook account
Now, how do you create a burner Facebook account? For starters, you’ll need a fake phone number or email address. There are various websites around that allow you to do just that; FakeNumber and Randommer can generate temporary phone numbers, as for the fake email address you can go to TempMail or Email Generator.
Then, fake phone number or email address in hand, go to Facebook.com and select Create new account.
Enter false information for your account: name, surname, mobile number/email, password, birthday and gender.
Click Sign Up, and you’re in.
Privacy settings
Now that you have your anonymous Facebook account, you might want to check your privacy settings in order to protect yourself better:
– select the downturn arrow at the top right corner of the screen
– then go to Settings & Privacy
– by selecting the various options, you can significantly increase your privacy level by deciding, for instance, who can see your Facebook posts and your friends list, as well as who can contact you through the platform
– that’s it! You can now roam the platform while being incognito mode!
