Interview with Stratos Baschenis, CEO of MyWoWo, the first application designed to travel… remaining still!
MyWoWo is short for My Wonderful World, and that already says a lot about the wonderful philosophy behind this young project. Technically, in fact, MyWoWo is a “simple” application dedicated to those who love to travel and visit the cultural beauties of the world; in depth, however, MyWoWo is much, much more.
It is a wide-spectrum project that has as objective to zero distances, whatever they may be: physical, architectural, social, cultural. The engine of everything is in fact a very precise conviction: travel, art, knowledge are essential elements that must be the prerogative of anyone, without any condition. Not surprisingly the slogan of MyWoWo is: Wonders with No Limits!
How MyWoWo Works
As we have mentioned, MyWoWo is an application available on iOS and Android marketplaces and you can download it here:
What can you do with the app? Say that you will have the whole beauty of the world in your pocket, it seems a bit exaggerated? Probably, but that’s exactly how this works! Inside the app you can find audio content in multiple languages through which you can learn about the history, curiosities, descriptions of places and art works of major interest of the most important cities of the world.
The contents are interpreted by specialized professionals, in a simple way and with a language that conquers both the younger and the more adult audience. Each guide is usable even if your smartphone or tablet is offline and this is a great added value! The app is free, as well as a 30-second preview of every audio of your interest.

How and when was the idea of MyWoWo born?
The idea was born about 6 years ago after several experiences, not exactly positive, accrued with my wife and my children through the use of traditional audio guides. We had to make long queues, incur important costs, leave documents as a guarantee, pay cash, use heavy and not always clean objects. Alse the audio content in most cases was not particularly attractive, especially for young people.
How long did it take to shape the project?
About a year, we had to test a lot of things: what was available in app format, in how many languages, about which cities, how content was developed and how to create something original and unique. We then created our own format with short and attractive audio that contains in each of them a curiosity to keep the attention of the listener high without never exceeding the 3 minutes of length for each audio. If we have to tell a work that deserves so many minutes of listening we do it by fragmenting the listening in multiple files and leaving the possibility to the user to decide to listen them all or only a part.
How are users responding?
Users respond very well. Having invested in the creation of content in 7 languages, we involve many users from all over the world, from China to the United States, Europe and Russia.
The pandemic, among many things, has also taken away the taste for traveling. How important has technology been in this and how will it change the way to travel?
The pandemic has actually “put on standby” the pleasure of travel and what we have noticed is that as soon as people could return to travel, users have started looking immediately on the web for audio content usable in app to visit the cities of interest.
How did you launch your project? Did you use crowdfunding campaigns?
No, at the moment the project is fully financed by the founding members of MyWoWo.
Curiosity: do you also use MyWoWo to visit the world?
Absolutely yes, I personally went to Paris, London, Athens many times alone and with family but, I have learned many notions and curiosities listening to the content made by our authors. Also the smart quizzes made available on the application take you to discover new and funny aspects. Try to believe!
