Possible Release Date for the Nintendo Switch 2

By Alex Balaniuc

The question is on everyone’s lips: is the Nintendo Switch 2 upcoming? What will it be called? What about the release date?

In today’s article, you’ll find out why we think the Nintendo Switch 2 will be released soon!

The miracle of the Nintendo Switch

We’re not exaggerating when we designate the Nintendo Switch as the savior of the company. With the disastrous performance of the Wii U (2012) on the market, in fact, Nintendo suffered from a pretty alarming decline in sales and prestige. Nintendo fans were unimpressed with the latest gaming system, which only sold around 13 million units throughout its lifetime. Not only was the Wii U lackluster, but it also had to compete with Sony’s record-breaking PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s pretty attractive Xbox One.

The Japanese video game giant knew that something had to be done about the situation. Thus, the miraculous Nintendo Switch was born in 2017, a console that today has surpassed any other Nintendo platform ever created with a staggering 107+ million units sold. Throughout the years, there have been also variants of the gaming system: the Switch Lite (2019), more economic and portable-only, and the Switch OLED (2021), that features an upgraded OLED screen.

Is Nintendo Switch 2 on the way?

With that considered, it’s not that unreasonable to speculate about the release of a brand-new Nintendo console soon. The life-cycle of the Switch might be coming to an end in a couple of years, after all. Many suppose that the alleged next console — in case it’ll be a continuation of the Switch line — will be called either Switch 2, Switch Pro or New Nintendo Switch. The possibility of the system supporting 4K resolution is also highly popular among speculators.

On what basis are people making these assumptions, though? Well, the answer could be found within The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2.

The game is scheduled for release in Spring 2023, and that seems like a perfect opportunity to simultaneously launch the successor to the Switch. BOTW 2 is going to be a guaranteed success, taking into account how brilliantly the first chapter performed. So, it would be completely capable of singlehandedly driving the sales for the upcoming Nintendo system and give it a solid kickstart.

Other than the release date of BOTW 2, there’s another more prominent aspect that supports the thesis of a new console launch. Take the latest trailer for the game: the graphics look stunning, as if they’ve been subjected to a much stronger upgrade compared to the predecessor. As Game Rant notes, “In the previous trailer released two months ago, the visuals on display had a much finer level of detail and polish than what is normally seen on the Switch”. The textures and the lightning effects look super impressive, worthy of a next-gen console.

In conclusion

A brand-new Nintendo console is definitely going to be released pretty soon, since the aforementioned end of the Switch life-cycle is near. Companies such as Nintendo base their livelihood off of technological innovation, so they can’t allow themselves to be stuck with the same (although great) product for too long.

I’m positive that we’ll get a bomb announcement by Nintendo before the end of 2022 regarding the next console launch. Until then, we can only wait!
