WHSP ring: talk under your breath with the virtual assistant’virtual assistant

The future of ambient computing is here, but there is one problem: lack of discretion. Often, our interactions with voice assistants require us to speak at a higher volume than when we converse with other people. But what if we could communicate with our virtual assistant by whispering quietly? This is the problem that South Korean company VTouch has decided to address with its innovative WHSP ring.

A smart ring for whisper communication

VTouch’s WHSP ring features a proximity sensor and microphone that activate when you bring it close to your mouth. This way, when you want to talk to your virtual assistant, you can simply whisper toward your fist and he will understand you. This innovation promises to make interactions with our voice assistants more discreet and personal.

During a quick demonstration at CES 2024 in Las Vegas, I was able to see the WHSP ring in action. The idea is to use VTouch’s proprietary application, which offers severalAI-based virtual assistants to help you with your daily activities. For example, I was able to experience a virtual assistant art curator and even a digital psychiatrist, both accessible directly from my smartphone. In addition, the WHSP ring allows you to interact with your smart home, adjusting all the usual parameters with the convenience of your own subdued tones.

Features and range of the WHSP ring

TheWHSP ring has a battery life of about a day and a half on a single charge. In addition, the included charging case allows you to extend the life of the ring up to nine days. Virtual assistant responses are transmitted directly to your headset, allowing you to “chat” with your assistant in total privacy. In addition, the ring has a button that, when pressed five times at the same time, activates a system to alert your contacts of an emergency and record surrounding ambient sounds.

At present, VTouch is planning to launch the WHSP ring on Kickstarter, although no information on price or release date is yet available. However, this innovative solution seems promising for those who want a more discreet and personal experience with their virtual assistants.
