Compulsion Games Launches its Newly Restyled Website

June 22, 2022
A few days prior to the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, Compulsion Games launched its restyled, brand-new website, and fans took it as a sneaky way for the development studio to hint at their appearance at the event held on June 12th.
A brief overview of Compulsion Games’ titles: Contrast and We Happy Few
Compulsion Games officially became part of the Xbox Game Studios family after being acquired by Microsoft at E3 2018. Before this acquisition, the Montreal-based indie company founded in 2009 gained a good amount of attention with its first two titles.
The puzzle platformer Contrast, released in November of 2013, won the Most Innovative Game of the Year at the Canadian Game Awards. But the next game, We Happy Few, received an even greater enthusiastic response among critics and audiences alike.
We Happy Few, released as early access for Windows in 2016, and then also for PS4 and Xbox One in 2018 as a full game, is an action-adventure survival horror set in a dystopic post-WW2 England. The praise was mainly about the title’s grim aesthetic, dark story, music, charismatic leads and unique art.
The new Compulsion Games website
Now, back to the new Compulsion Games site. The portal is super fun to navigate, with fluid animations that make the simple action of scrolling very dynamic and entertaining. On the site users can get information about the team’s games, the aforementioned Contrast and We Happy Few. There’s an About Us section that tells the entire story of how Compulsion Games came to be and their first steps in the development of their interactive projects, the acquisition by Xbox Game Studios, etc. Lastly, the contact info for anyone interested in joining the team, which currently includes 80+ developers from all around the world.
What’s next?
Back in 2021 rumors started going around about a new game in the works, something that Phil Spencer himself confirmed. The Compulsion Games crew then made it known that it is involved with the development of new, strange adventures that will probably see a PC and Xbox release. The version for Microsoft’s console might even be a Day One Game Pass exclusive.
The temporary name of this next game is “Project Midnight“, a new IP that will supposedly feature a third-person action-adventure experience set in a dark fantasy world. The aesthetic will be influenced by the “southern gothic“, and this is noticeable in the first drafts that show humanoid creatures resembling harpies, and mysterious beasts with magic powers.
Unfortunately, we didn’t get any announcement concerning this upcoming game at the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase. No ulterior updates via other channels have come out either, so all we can do now is waiting patiently and letting the team work their magic.
