GoDaddy’s Tips to Rank your Website Higher on Google SERPs

November 5, 2021
Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is something that every online business owner should keep in high regard. Indeed, SEO is among the primary business strategies that helps a site emerge from the infinite sea of sites that populate the web. It’s a powerful tool that, when used correctly, makes your site stand out from the crowd of competitors. It also makes it easier for Internet users to find your site whenever they enter queries in the Google Search engine related to your business.
But many marketers still struggle with properly setting up a website for SEO purposes. Consequently, the chances of placing higher among search engine results pages (SERPs) get slimmer. Therefore, if you feel like you’re not doing too great with SEO, check out the following article about how to improve your site’s positioning on SERPs with GoDaddy’s tips!
1) Use Meta Tags
Metadata tags such as Title, Meta Description and H1, just to name a few, provide search engines with crucial information about your website contents: always add meta tags, and pay attention to keywords.
2) Internal linking
Internal linking consists in linking together different pages on your website (via links). These pages usually deal with similar topics, or further elaborate on a topic that was mentioned in another page. Linking can help users reach conversion pages and make them stay on your site longer (increased engagement). Moreover, this tool tells search engines which pages are the most important.
3) Fix 4XX and 5XX errors
These types of error pages (error 404, for instance) make it harder for search engine bots to correctly analyze and index your webpages. They could even worsen your site’s ranking in SERPs, since they’re indicators of a poor quality website.
4) Avoid duplicate content
When the same type of content appears on more than one webpage, search engines can’t tell which page needs to be indexed. Furthermore, pages that are very similar in content won’t exactly provide users with a great experience on your website.
5) Focus on quality
More doesn’t always equal better. Search engines prefer a website with high-quality content, instead of a great quantity of mediocre content. Create less but well-written, in-depth and useful content for your users, and search engines’ll be more likely to reward you.
6) Get an SSL certificate
An SSL certificate encrypts input and output data, and owning one has become an important factor for ranking on Google. This certificate grants encrypted HTTPS communication, meaning that your users and their sensitive data will be safer while visiting your website.
7) Optimization for mobile devices
A good chunk of users access the Internet via mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets. Starting 2020, Google decided to use a new, “mobile first” indexing system: the search engine monitors and classifies primarily the mobile version of a website. Therefore, creating a more web responsive site that properly adapts to any device screen is key.
8) Improve site speed
Google doesn’t like websites that take forever to load. Site speed is in fact a discriminant factor when it comes to indexing webpages. A slow website provides users with an awful experience, it’ll make them click off your site and look for a better alternative. This gives search engines negative feedback regarding the site.
