Interview with Federica Gaetani, co-founder and marketing director of Lisia, the startup that offers the Legal tech platform that can answer any legal question.
Today digitalization is starting to pervade all sectors and the law is no exception to the rule. The entry of technology into the world of services and the forensic profession is redesigning the face of the Italian, European and world legal landscape thanks to innovative tools more or less complex ranging from the use of big data, of artificial intelligence and to machine learning. If you are looking for a platform that improves your daily work, through the use of technology, now your best ally is called Lisia!
What’s Lisia
Lisia is the digital legal tech platform that, thanks to artificial intelligence, allows users to answer legal questions by extracting relevant parts of text directly from full sentences. Lisia uses cognitive search systems, a new generation of search tools, that output the results more relevant to the user. The Lysis algorithm through a semantic/vector system, in a fraction of a second, sorts millions of legal data contained in full and maximum sentences in the search index to find the most useful and relevant results compared to what users are looking for.
In full judgements the system is able to highlight through an automatic scrolling the relevant part of the sentence. Through these tools, the research focuses only on the relevant and pertinent part of the documents, speeding up and simplifying the reading.
If you want to know more about this fantastic platform we suggest you read the interview with Federica Gaetani, co-founder and marketing director of Lisia.
Hi Federica, pleased to meet you and thank you for the time. Tell us something more about Lisia. How and when was the idea of Lisias born?
The idea was born about two years ago. Stefano, our CEO, is a lawyer passionate about technology and he wanted to bring some tools that were able to simplify the work in Italy. We realized that in our country there are sectors in which technology is entering with slowness and resistance. One of these is precisely the legal sector, and for this reason we decided to propose a solution that makes the work more effective and efficient by responding to a frequent need among professionals.
How did you launch your company? Did you use crowdfunding campaigns?
We raised the first capital through family & friends then we obtained a loan through medium central credit and we won the Invitalia Smart & Start call. Right now we are talking to some Italian and European VCs to scale the market faster. Crowdfounding is a path that we have not yet taken into account but that interests us, it is certainly a valid alternative especially in an early stage.
How is artificial intelligence used to facilitate the user’s work?
Artificial intelligence is very useful in many areas: especially in the analysis and classification of huge amounts of data is proving to be a fundamental tool. We know that there are some fears and perplexities, sometimes AI has made mistakes and given wrong judgments, but this happens when it has to substitute the man, in the case of NLP and information retrieval, instead, it offers a huge support for the analysis of information.
Why would a law firm turn to Lysia?
People are talking about digitalization in all sectors including professional and public sectors, this is necessary to better respond to the new needs of the market, people no longer have to deal with boring and routine tasks but with those of higher added value. With Lisia, legal searches are faster and more effective with a considerable saving of costs and time.
What are your plans for the future?
There are many projects but it is important to be able to focus on and not disperse energies. Immediately we are working to improve the product especially based on the feedback that is coming from our customers. We are also working to enter other European markets since our algorithm is adaptable to other languages and in Europe we do not have many competitors. Then there are other projects, but as I said for now we focus on priorities.
Curiosity: Legal tech in Italy, where are we at?
In Italy there is still a lot to do, and this is good news for those who want to launch startups in this sector. On the other side of the coin however is that there is still resistance to change and skepticism, but I believe that progress will be made in this direction and that is precisely why it is the right time to invest.
