Interview with Federico Capriata and Stefano Sivori, founders of Klypss, the startup able to respond to all publishing needs.
It is often repeated that the content is the king of information and the distribution is its queen. Thanks to publishing platforms, the experience between content producers, consumers and publishers becomes interactive. An editorial platform has the ability to exchange information, produce content of different types and update them constantly. It then deals with the distribution of editorial content, because you know, the gasoline of the web is information but everyone needs a way or a network of channels to distribute it. If you are an author and you are looking for a new multidisciplinary space dedicated to information, created to encourage direct contact with the reader, it’s time to discover Klypss!
What is Klypss
Klypss is a platform that offers authors the opportunity to create, develop and curate one or more projects thanks to a management system created ad hoc, able to respond to all publishing needs. Within the platform there are two types of users, the authors (Klyper) and the readers (Reader). Klyp are multidisciplinary digital publishing projects, carried out by Klyper and transmitted via email, that can be made by writing enthusiasts, journalists, bloggers, popularizers, teachers, students and much more.
They lend themselves to different styles and formats, from reportage to press review, from story to episode, blogging or diary, and can be created for work, study or passion purposes.
To learn more about this project we interviewed Federico and Stefano, founders of Klypss.
Hi Federico and hello Stefano, it is a pleasure to meet you. We start thanking you for your time and then asking more about the Klypss’ project. How and when did Klypss’s idea come about?
The idea was born a bit by chance, we are former colleagues and we were both passionate about corporate press reviews. One day we thought how interesting it would be to receive a press review on a topic of interest in a simple, fast and intuitive way.
We started working on the idea during the early stages of the pandemic in 2020, at the beginning of 2021 we registered the company as an innovative start-up and soon after Carolina Gatti joined the group as project manager.
During 2021 we developed the platform and from February 2022 it is officially online.
How did you launch your company? Did you use crowdfunding campaigns?
The company and the development of the platform were financed with our personal funds. For the establishment we also made use of the help of the call Start-up 2020 promoted by the Chamber of Commerce of Rome.
How is the platform for Klypers and Readers structured?
KLYPSS is an innovative and multidisciplinary publishing platform based on a new way of information. On the platform there will be two types of users: the Klyper, that is the users Authors, and the Reader that is the users who read. Obviously Klyper can also be Reader and vice versa. The digital product created, read and shared are the Klyp.
Klyp are long-term digital publishing projects transmitted via email that can be realized by writing enthusiasts, journalists, bloggers, communicators, teachers, students, and more. They lend themselves to different styles and formats, from reportage to press review, story to episode, blogging, diary or newsletter, and can be created for work, study or passion purposes. The Klyp is the container, the frame within which creates multiple weekly or monthly editions that are sent directly to the inbox of their subscribers.
For readers, the platform is presented as a showcase divided into macro-categories where you can select the material to read and follow without being the target of algorithms, and where you can support, if deemed appropriate, the work of writers with a small monthly contribution.
KLYPSS wants to be an ally for freelance and emerging authors, it offers several advantages among which a simple interface, a complete editor, the automated management of sending emails to readers and soon will offer an integrated payment system to request (optionally) a small sum of money for the information work done.
What are the strengths of Klypss?
We believe that the concept of Klyp, that is a long-term digital publishing project transmitted by email, can emerge through a strong identity aimed at creating a clear and distinct identification of the product for the public users. KLYPSS aims to create a space that combines this form of communication and promotes its development.
Today, the information market is extremely fragmented, aided by the crisis of traditional media, the pandemic and the boom of social media. In a fast-paced digital era, where clickbait titles are rampant, the desire to research is diminishing, the “pen” loses weight and at the end of the day we feel satisfied and satiated with the information received. KLYPSS intends to insert itself in this reality in an anti-competitive optical view regarding the players already present on the market, aiming not to exceed or to improve a service but mainly to strengthen and to mend the relationship, more and more fragmented, than intercourse between authors and readers.
This goal allows us to integrate the logic of the subscription economy to the publishing world because we believe that at this point Readers have greater understanding of the effort supported by content creators and have the opportunity to recognize the value of the service offered.
What kind of possible developments in the future?
The platform is online in the start-up phase with the first authors already active in the creation of content. For months, before the launch, we conducted research by interviewing future users who highlighted their needs. The site is accessible by computer and phone, and among the developments to be implemented there are the integration of the payment module, the creation of an app to facilitate navigation from mobile devices and tablets, along with other platform optimizations such as support for video formats and for external content such as audio and podcasts.
Curiosity: do you agree with those who claim that digital represents the present and the future of publishing?
Certainly the digital plays an increasingly important role in the dissemination of information and is increasingly articulated and various forms of interaction within it. The questions we asked ourselves at KLYPSS were: Are the current forms of information transmission in the digital age the most appropriate and the best? Is it possible to create and model a new communication channel?
These are some of the reflections behind the KLYPSS project and we can’t wait to find out what the actors involved think about it.
