 Interview with Vincenzo Magliulo, General Manager at Cibus Vivendi, a project with the mission of transforming the diet landscape by providing users whatever they need to be compliant to a diet and reduce the drop-out rate by providing medical nutrition consultation, diet meals delivered at home according and telemedicine.

Cibus Vivendi helps people live better and longer. This innovative startup wants to improve the customers’ lives by bringing balance to the relationship between food and medicine. This can be achieved by redefining our eating habits and lifestyle in general, which will lead to a change in our perspective when it comes to “dieting”. The company is aiming at reducing food waste, and also at avoiding time and money-wasting medical examinations: its ultimate mission is delivering the best service possible with less time, money and energy expenditure .

Here’s how Cibus Vivendi operates

We follow the customers throughout their journey to determine the best dietary plan in line with their goals through a combination of telemedicine and agrifood processes managed by our qualified personnel. We believe that giving up on the food taste is completely unnecessary; all it takes is finding healthy, tasty food combination that are backed by the international scientific literature. Our medical team is looking forward to delivering at-home nutrition advice to help you develop healthy eating habits, with a focus on quality, variety, not refined and not processed ingredients, right dosages and measure for everyone.

First, a free test on our website will determine the best dietary plan for the user. The test processes the answers through an algorithm created by our medical team. Then, the user can purchase the recommended plan and participate in a video-medical examination. Following the telemedicine phase, the user will start receiving their diet plan food at home each week, instead of simply getting a written plan.

Included in the plan’s weekly pricing are the following:

  • Consulting via phone or via videoconference with Cibus Vivendi’s team of doctors and nutritionists;
  • Customized dietary plan;
  • Instructions for cooking the food and keeping it fresh;
  • Portioned and ready-to-cook food delivered by the short food supply chain:
  • Weekly telemedicine checkups with progress curve.

Cibus Vivendi’s strength resides in the delivery of healthy, organic, portioned food through the short food supply chain, with the food being selected by a professional. No need to make appointments or pay for each checkup, since these are included in the price and are performed completely online once the user logs into their personal area on the site.

Take our free online test and get the best plan for you. By using our service, you can access your personal area and update it with your progress and requests throughout your journey. Following an initial screening (test and video-call examination), the medical staff can determine your needs, long-term and short-term goals. We set out to lower the dropout rate typical of diets through a method that can eliminate cravings and trick your brain into eating certain foods in certain amounts without much sacrifice.

Cibus Vivendi completely changes the way we think about nutrition: having a medical professional at your disposal at home, weekly raw (or pre-coocked) food and routine checkups is our revolution of the dietary classic path. Want to find out more about it? Read the interview below with the General Manager Vincenzo Magliulo!

Hi, Vincenzo! Nice to meet you, and thank you for your time. What is Cibus Vivendi about?

It’s a practical solution to our obsession with dieting. It helps heal one’s body and extend life expectancy, and it also prevents the waste of food by providing users with the right portions that can satisfy their eating needs. The current dieting paradigm is extremely stressful, because it involves a massive waste of: 1.time, 2. Money, 3.stress  and energy. Cibus Vivendi gets rid of all this by setting up online medical appointments and giving the user a rich and balanced dietary plan designed by nutrition specialists. The food is then prepared by our personnel in our laboratory and delivered to the user in a weekly Box. Customers are therefore facilitated in reaching their weight goals or boosting their metabolism. Checkups are free and via telemedicine on our site, or on other platforms we integrate.

How was the idea of Cibus Vivendi born?

It happened when we realized that there wasn’t any telemedicine service on the market that would deliver real food – not the powder, pill supplements – to the user both at home or at work. That’s why we came up with it 😀 The startup was founded in 2020 after 2 years of idea-development and project validation.

How long did it take for you to shape the project?

Our team of nutrition specialists have been working on a solution to solve the diet dropout phenomenon for a while. We observed that once patients leave the medical office, they struggle to follow their diet, and the  jungle of internet-based diet products surely doesn’t help. So we started re-designing the diet path, and  after 2 years of extensive research on the issue the project started to take shape.

Who’s Cibus Vivendi targeted to? And how’s the market responding, so far?

It’s for those who want to improve their health and physical shape. Or for those who just want to give their metabolism a boost. But also for sportsmen that want to perform better, for those who want to “detox” their body, and those that need a specific diet for medical reasons. Our Boxes contain fresh and healthy food suitable for whichever goal the customer has. At the end of 2020 the “beta testing” phase was over, and in 2021 we started making more profit than expected, despite our rather light marketing campaign. Now we’re ready to scale our business, and in order to do so we’re going to start a crowdfunding campaign and implement strategic partnerships.

How important is technology in relation to self-care services? Will it manage to ease up people regarding the “dreaded” concept of healthy eating?

Technology can do extraordinary things when used correctly. In our case, we use technology to connect our nutrition specialists, diabetologists and endocrinologists with users/customers via telemedicine. Users won’t need to move from their houses/workplaces at all. As for the “healthy eating” part, I think people are nowday more conscious about eating well, exercise and pursue a better lifestyle. “Diet” is the most hated word, since it’s related to restriction and even hunger. But we want to bring back at the original meaning of the word diet, which means “to have a rule”. At Cibus Vivendi we make that rule simple and easy to follow for the customers in a way that this will represent for him a new habit for the future.

How did you launch the project?

Phase 1 saw the involvement of small influencers who promoted us, then we moved on to sponsored campaigns on social media and search engines. As we’re about to scale our business, we’re preparing to appear on national television.

Fun fact: why “Cibus Vivendi”?

It comes from the latin phrase “food for life”. The researchers that compose our medical team work with very important university hospitals in Italy; they’re aware that only through good food we can live longer, not through “magic pills”. Healthy, no-processed, measured, seasonal food is the true long life elixir. To us, all this can be summed up with the phrase “Cibus Vivendi”.
