OnePlus launches its magic eraser: goodbye unwanted objects

April 10, 2024
OnePlus, the Chinese high-end smartphone company, has decided to create its own version of Google’s Magic Eraser. This new artificial intelligence tool gives the user the ability to remove unwanted objects from photos automatically.
OnePlus’ Magic Eraser: a challenge to innovation
OnePlus has always been a company that has tried to stand out from the competition, both positively and negatively. OnePlus’ Magic Eraser is the company’s latest bet in the field of mobile artificial intelligence. Contrary to what one might think, this is not a simple copy of Google’s Magic Eraser, but a version completely developed in-house by OnePlus.
According to information provided by the company, OnePlus’ Magic Eraser is the result of a significant investment in research and development. OnePlus developed its own natural language models(LLMs) to create an algorithm capable of understanding complex scenes in photos. With this advanced visual understanding, OnePlus’ Magic Eraser can intelligently replace unwanted objects with contextually appropriate elements, thus naturally improving the quality of photos.
A useful feature that is already there
The artificial intelligence-based Magic Eraser is nothing new in the smartphone world. Google launched its Magic Eraser long before OnePlus introduced its own. Moreover, this feature is already available on iOS and Android devices via the Google Photos app. Thus, it may seem strange that OnePlus decided to invest significant resources to develop its own version of another feature that is already widely available.
However, OnePlus seems to want to maximize the potential of artificial intelligence on its devices. This could be just the beginning of a series of innovative AI features developed by OnePlus to set itself apart from the competition.
Availability of OnePlus’ magic eraser
OnePlus ‘ Magic Eraser will be available on OnePlus devices starting this month. The first models to receive this feature will be the OnePlus 12, OnePlus 12R, OnePlus 11, OnePlus Open, and OnePlus Nord CE 4. Unfortunately, the R12-D12 will not be compatible with this feature.
