Amazon would like to sell marijuana online

By federicamercadante

Amazon never wants to be left behind and wants to understand everyone’s needs to offer the best online service and make them satisfied.

In June he announced that he is pro-marijuana.This stance towards weed has generated a lot of positive feedback and a welcome respite from worker abuses, privacy violations and regulator penalties. But this had raised a question from many: will Amazon start delivering marijuana flowers, edibles and cartridges to your door as well?

Seattle’s big multinational corporation is now urging a Congress to pass federal legislation that would legalize marijuana and he will join social-justice organizations and drug-reform advocates in lobbying Congress to pass this proposal in Washington.

Amazon strongly believes that the time has come to reform the nation’s cannabis policy and wants to make a contribution to help lead the effort in this battle for legalisation. Currently supports the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement Act of 2021, a House bill that would end the federal ban on weed. If this were to be approved it would change and expand the entire Amazon market which, in addition to this, also supports the Cannabis Administration and Opportunity Act bill recently introduced by the Senate.

In the past, Amazon has been forced to dismiss some employees due to marijuana screenings, but as of June 2021 it has decided that it will no longer drug test for cannabis (excluding delivery truck drivers) and has reinstated employment eligibility for former employees and potential job applicants who were either terminated or deferred due to marijuana screenings. Indeed the pre-employment marijuana testing disproportionately affects recruitment, especially for people of color.  Eliminating pre-employment testing for cannabis will help the company expand its pool of applicants, without having to foreclose the doors to valuable helpers because of marijuana use.

The marijuana industry is evolving at a rapid pace and, as the industry evolves, so must the companies that operate within it and around it. For Amazon to market cannabis products it would be yet another step to keeping consumers within its retail sphere.

Even if there was federal legalization, what impact that would have on state laws remains to be seen. Seeing cannabis treated with the same loose touch as alcohol, for example, will require a change never seen before in institutional and cultural attitudes.
