The online product purchase and sales platform eBay is one of the best known and popular worldwide. This is a site that offers endless facilities to its users when making online sales. In this article, we will explain in detail, how to sell on eBay step by step.
If you are interested in entering the world of internet sales, then grab a pencil and paper.
Create an eBay account
When creating your eBay account you should keep in mind to select a professional or serious name. That name will be seen by all potential customers, so think of something that identifies the products you will sell, or just use your real name.
Once you have created your account, you can access the platform with your eBay username and password, or using your Google or Facebook account.
It is recommended that you carefully read the User Agreement and the Privacy Policy to understand each aspect of eBay sales.
Link your PayPal account
When you register, the online sales platform recommends that you link your PayPal account to your new eBay account.
In case you already have an account on the sales website, you only have to position the cursor over your name that appears at the top of the left side of the eBay screen, wait for the pop-up menu to appear, and click on Configuration of the Bill. On this screen select the option “PayPal account” and click on “Link my PayPal account”, which you will see on the right side of the screen, and finally enter your PayPal login information. If you do not have a PayPal account, the option you must select is “Register today”, and enter all the information requested.
Define your seller profile
Through your profile you must convey confidence to the public, indicating relevant information about yourself as a seller. It is highly recommended that you insert a photograph and your background information into the business world. This is very important to sell on eBay.
To create your profile position the cursor on your name, click on your user ID, wait for the pop-up menu to appear, and click on “Edit profile“. Once you have entered all the data, press the “Finish editing” button.
Create your eBay product listing
From the “Sell” option located in the upper left of the eBay page, you can enter the description of the product to sell. If you have the UPC or ISBN of the item (usually found in the barcode), you can enter it and this will greatly facilitate the process.
Another option is that you create a whole spreadsheet with the product information, which will allow you to enter details of it, and will improve your sales opportunities. We explain this option to you:
Enter the title
In this field, you have 80 characters to describe specifically and clearly, what is the product you are offering. It is one of the first data buyers see, so be sure to write it understandable and descriptive. Include if possible, the brand, designer, color, size, and condition.
Add photos
The advertisement of your articles requires a photo as a minimum, but it is recommended to use several highlighting the characteristics of the product.
Add sharp, good-quality photos and avoid using flashy backgrounds. Neutral (white) backgrounds are better in these cases. You should also keep in mind that the photographs of the manufacturers or that you get on the Internet are not the best option. The images created by yourself convince users that you really own the product.
You can also use Ebay’s computer vision feature to highlight your items.
Write the description
Be sure to include any details about the product that the buyer should know about. Write clearly taking care of your grammar and spelling.
The description should result in a text that is easy to read and understand. Fill in all the fields you consider necessary, the more details the better.
Indicates a competitive price
On eBay, there are two forms of a quotation, the fixed price, and the auction.
The fixed price option indicates a cost that does not vary and that you determine as well as the minimum amount established by the sales platform.
In the auction modality, you also indicate a price but you allow the buyers to make offers for your product, and usually, the sale is made to the highest bidder.
In this section, you must indicate how long your offer will last, by default it is seven days, but you can determine another time. Another piece of information that you should also indicate is the payment options you accept, the return options, and the taxes.
Before defining your prices, do some research on the market on eBay so that you have the opportunity to offer competitive prices.
Define shipping cost
In this aspect, eBay makes it easier for you to calculate the shipment, according to the characteristics of the package and the service you select. It is much better if you enter all the information from this section so that your buyers may accurately manage shipping details.
You can also offer free shipping as motivation for your buyers, as long as it’s convenient. Validate your options, and set reasonable shipping options.
After selling a product
Once you have made a sale, you must be very careful in the following steps:
Article delivery
You must pack the product with great care, implementing all the necessary measures so that it arrives in perfect condition. You should also properly label the shipping box, indicating the destination address and return address.
Another important aspect to keep in mind is to deliver on time. In case of any inconvenience with the shipping process, contact the buyer immediately and inform them about it.
Comments
Sellers also have the opportunity to comment on their experience in the sales process. This will help you develop a good relationship with your buyers and encourage the feedback process.
To post comments, go to the Orders section in the Sellers Center.
Take all these aspects into account and start to successfully sell on eBay.
