Interview with Alessio Zolla, CEO of Pleiax

October 26, 2021
Interview with Alessio Zolla, CEO of Pleiax, a digital transformation company created by digital natives.
“Digital transformation” is a novel concept that is finally catching on, also thanks to young start-ups such as Pleiax. Non-digital native CEOs are still reluctant to innovate their companies in a meaningful way, despite our current immersion in the Digital Age. Digital “education” is therefore a necessity. Pleiax is an innovative start-up built by digital natives with a clear goal in mind: pursuing the digitalization of as many companies as possible for more sustainable and long-lasting growth.

Hi Alessio, nice to meet you, and thank you for your time. Pleiax: what is this new exciting project about?
Pleiax is part of Holding Atlante, a company with more than 500 employees across 5 companies that operate in various sectors: from Facility Management to Energy Management, from Logistics & Packaging to Digital Transformation – which has us as representatives. Holding Atlante appeared in the “Financial Times TOP 1000 – Europe” 2017 ranking, and it also appeared in 2020’s “Leader della Crescita” and 2021’s Sole 24 Ore rankings for two consecutive years. So far, it has established offices in Italy and overseas – in Milan, Rome, London, Dubai and Abu Dhabi – and signed a joint venture deal with one of the world’s biggest Logistics & Packaging companies with a turnover of $5.2 billion, UFP Industries (listed on the New York Nasdaq index).
How and when was the idea of Pleiax born?
It was born from the need of Holding Atlante’s leadership to make a tangible change in digital transformation. We dared to venture into this new challenge at the peak of the pandemic, because we wanted to provide our clients with a cross-sectoral know-how that could further our idea of “digital nativity”. Today, Pleiax is a Consulting Company recognized by the EU, and it appears in the European Transparency Register with the number 249194143518-63; we are part of Italy’s biggest business cluster 4.0, Fabbrica Intelligente; and – lastly – we partook in “Open Innovation – Regione Lombardia”, a platform where digital innovation promoters from Lombardy connect.
How long did it take for the project to be fully completed?
It was fairly easy: an idea fueled by ambition and a clear goal can flourish in no time. There’s also the fact that we’re young and have a solid support system. However, we don’t think of ourselves as “perfect”. In addition, we have enthusiasm and energy on our side, not to mention our roster made of professionals with varying degrees of expertise, who are seriously engaged in collaborating with PMIs in the B2B process.
Who are Pleiax’s target? And how has the market been responding so far?
Pleiax is for those that truly want to give a technological spin to their business. We offer all-round services and cross-sectoral skills in many different fields: from Digital Marketing, to Business Intelligence and even Software Custom development. We come up with strategies that connect people with brands (and brands with each other) in an effort to create more added value through digitalization. Today’s market is dynamic and ever-evolving: only those who accept change can move forward. The pandemic has accelerated the digitalization process for many companies, which have had to implement IT tools and services to keep going. We live in a connected world, in which every process needs to be digitalized in order to be improved on. The people and the methods are key elements here. We’re more conscious and knowledgeable, thus we can say for sure that the years to come will be critical for this transformation; a transformation we’re ready to take on.
Digital transformation companies are all the rage now: how’s Pleiax different from the others?
Well, it’s in our name. “Pleiax” comes from the latin word “Pleiadi”, mythical constellations that offer guidance. We want to fill that role ourselves for our clients until they reach their goals. We refuse a cold, cookie-cutter approach made of consulting and standard packages: we give our clients a customized experience by building a transparent relationship in order to optimize work, business processes, digital communication and brand image. We turn ideas into reality.
How did you launch the project?
In a completely digitalized way. The lockdown didn’t let us meet in person, so we used all the social channels and digital tools at our disposal. We initially focused on Holding Atlante’s internal companies in order to build more expertise inside the Company itself. As early adopters, our project was greenlit, and we could expand abroad thanks to the Company’s network. Then, we started scouting digitally and directly. We aim to make our model scalable and replicable in the next few months via a strong digital marketing campaign.
Fun fact: do you use your campaign planning tools yourselves?
Sure. We ourselves are our first customers. The approach we employ is also the same, because we deeply value our clients, and we’re convinced that in order to deliver the best service possible we need to try it ourselves first.
