New Microsoft Investment in Artificial Intelligence

What is OpenAI?

One of the tools they have created is ChatGPT, a modern speech-processing platform that can generate human text in real-time. ChatGPT has attracted attention for its ability to generate coherent and engaging responses to many questions, making it a valuable tool for tasks such as chatbots, content creation, and language translation.

What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is a chat system based on the GPT-3 language intelligence model developed by OpenAI. The model has 175 million parameters trained on many words to perform language-related tasks, from translation to document generation.

Artificial intelligence learns from data, is asked questions, and aggregates information, from which this adaptive system “learns” over time to perform the task it was designed to do. This is the tutorial for all AIs, all ChatGPTs, and other magical avatars of Lensa.

Microsoft declined to provide another dollar

CNBC complemented that the agreement marks the third phase of the partnership between the two companies, following previous investments by Microsoft in 2019 and 2021. Microsoft said the renewed partnership will accelerate advances in AI and help both companies commercialize advanced technologies in the future.

It was announced earlier this month that the tech giant was in talks to invest up to $10 billion. “We formed our partnership with OpenAI around a shared ambition to responsibly advance cutting-edge AI research and democratize AI as a new technology platform,” Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said in a blog post.

ChatGPT automatically generates text based on typed prompts in a much more advanced and creative way than Silicon Valley chatbots of the past. The software debuted in late November last year and quickly became a viral sensation as tech executives and venture capitalists talked about it on Twitter, even comparing it to the debut of Apple’s iPhone in 2007.

It’s worth remembering that OpenAI works closely with Microsoft’s cloud service, Azure. In July 2019, Microsoft backed OpenAI with $1 billion and the investment made Microsoft the “exclusive” provider of cloud computing services for OpenAI. Microsoft said Monday today that Azure will continue to serve as the exclusive provider for OpenAI.

AI researchers rank OpenAI as one of the top three AI labs in the world, and the company has developed AI software for games that can beat humans in video games such as Dota 2. However, it arguably received more attention for its AI text generator GPT-3 and its quirky AI image generator Dall-E.

Other investments and purchases

Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, is thinking big, and this won’t be the only tech giant to buy. The CEO of the company founded by Bill Gates buys companies at an incredible price. Since he was promoted to the position in 2014, Nadella has started buying a lot. It all started with Mojang Studios, video games (Minecraft) for $2500 million, then LinkedIn for $26 billion, and Nuance (voice recognition and AI) for $20 billion. Activision Blizzard is the most publicized $690 million target but is currently negotiating with regulators. At the end of the year, the buzzer sounded about Microsoft’s potential acquisition of Netflix. Since then, the two companies have merged. Netflix has chosen Microsoft as a marketing partner for the new ad-based service.
