Your Android Phone won’t Charge Correctly: What to Do

By Alex Balaniuc

Smartphones have become a very important part of most people’s lives. These devices allow us to perform an extensive array of tasks, which greatly simplifies our daily endeavours: for instance, you can shop online by using your phone while comfortably sitting on your sofa, instead of having to go to a certain store in person, and wasting time and energy by doing so.

That’s why, if your Android smartphone started showing signs of malfunction, you’d be reasonably concerned about it. If you’re experiencing something like this right now, we recommend you keep reading, because we’re going to find out how to fix an Android phone that doesn’t charge or turn on!

What happens when your phone won’t turn on or charge correctly

We’ll see the steps necessary to solve the following issues:

 – your phone won’t turn on

– your phone has a black or blank screen

– your phone turns on but immediately turns off

Fix your phone’s issues by following these steps

1) Hold the power button

Sometimes, restarting your phone can be just what your device needs in order to start functioning again. Try holding down your phone’s power button for 5-7 seconds, and see if this fixes the problem.

2) Check your cable, charger, outlet and case

To check if:

– your cable and charger are working:

 — try them with another device

— check that the cable is securely connected to the charger and to your phone

— check that there’s nothing in the port of your phone, like dust or lint.

– your outlet is working:

— plug the charger into a wall outlet

— plug in something else, like a lamp

Lastly, check that no accessories – like cases or battery packs – are covering the sensors on your phone, or pressing its buttons.

3) Fix battery charge

Plug in your phone with a working cable, charger, and outlet, then wait one minute. If you:

– see a battery icon, your phone is powered off and is charging. You can restart right away

– see a red light, your battery is fully discharged. If the red light is flashing, there isn’t enough power to turn on. Charge your phone for at least 30 minutes before restarting

– don’t see a battery icon or red light after you plug in your phone, the issue could be with your screen

4) Fix your screen

 – First, press the power button for about 30 seconds

– now wait at least 2 minutes

– then, make your phone ring by calling it from another device

If your phone doesn’t ring, check the advanced steps below.

Connect to a computer

 – Unplug the cable from the power charger

– connect your phone to your turned on computer’s USB port with the cable that came with your phone

– now wait 10–15 minutes

– disconnect and reconnect the cable from your phone within 10 seconds

If within 1 minute:

– you see a battery icon, your phone is powered off and is charging

– you see a red light, your battery is fully discharged. If the red light is flashing, there isn’t enough power to turn on

Next:

– charge your phone for at least 30 minutes

– press and hold the power button until your phone restarts

Use your phone’s buttons

Press and hold both the volume-down button and the power button at the same time for at least 20 seconds while your phone is plugged in.

Red light, your battery is fully discharged:

– charge your phone for at least 30 minutes

– then, restart the device

An Android robot and the word “Start” with an arrow around it appear:

– press the volume-down button until you see the option to “Power off”, then press the power button to pick “Power off”

– now charge your phone for at least 30 minutes

– lastly, normally restart the device, or press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds until your phone restarts
