Find Out Who’s Calling you with Sync.Me

October 16, 2021
Have you been receiving unwanted calls from unknown phone numbers throughout the day lately? Wouldn’t it be nice to finally find out who it is that’s calling you so insistently? If the answer is yes, then look no further than Sync.Me.
What is Sync.Me?
Sync.Me is a free Android and iOS app that essentially allows you to see Caller ID, meaning the identity of the individual that’s calling you. This can come in handy if you’re looking for a way to avoid receiving spam and fraudulent calls. Sync.Me’s goal is to protect their users from deceptive and abusive practices that are unfortunately fuelled by anonymity.
What you can do with Sync.Me
By blocking any suspicious phone number, you’ll greatly reduce the risk of being targeted by malicious or misleading activities. You can choose to report and block numbers that have been pestering you. Said numbers will then get added to your personal spam call list, or even to a regional spam call list. Moreover, in case a specific number was reported as spam by a good amount of users, other users will be notified if they receive a call from that same number.
As for the Caller ID feature, as I mentioned, the name of the caller will be displayed on your phone screen before you answer the call, and it might even get flagged if their number was previously reported as spam.
But another useful feature this app offers is the ability to sync the contacts on your phone with your social media contacts – be it Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or LinkedIn. This simply means that whenever you get a call from a number in your contact list, you’ll be able to see the caller’s social media picture and their name. Even better, the displayed picture is always updated in line with its social media counterpart. This is possible thanks to the app’s ability to cross-search data coming from different sources, meaning social media information and phone numbers.
Sync.Me is also a website, on which users can perform a number search, or “reverse numeric lookup“: anyone – even non-Sync.Me users – can manually search a number on this web-based platform in order to find out the identity of the caller and discover whether a number was reported as spam.
Privacy concerns
And this is where Sync.Me loses a few points in regards to privacy. Any number that has been viewed and identified by the app is registered in its database. Millions of phone numbers from around the world are stored in Sync.Me’s servers: when you go to Sync.Me‘s website and use the “Search any phone number” feature, you’ll be able to see the number you were looking for, paired with the owner’s full name. Even users that have never used the service, or downloaded the Sync.Me app, can find their data on Sync.Me’s site, in case another Sync.Me user previously used the app to identify their number.
With that said, this service is undoubtedly great for avoiding unwanted calls, but I’d recommend you consider the privacy risks before you download the app on your device.
