Apple in 2023: Discontinued Products and Future Innovations

By auroraoddi

In recent years, Apple has introduced many innovative and successful products to the market. However, every now and then the company decides to end production of some older products to make way for new solutions. As 2023 draws to a close, it is a good time to take a look at the Apple products and accessories that were discontinued during the year. Let’s see together what they are.

iPhone 13 mini: Goodbye to the Smallest Model

In recent years, Apple has introduced numerous innovative and commercially successful products to the market. However, occasionally the company decides to cease production of some older products to make room for new solutions. As 2023 comes to an end, it’s a good time to review Apple products and accessories that have been discontinued during the year. Let’s take a look at which ones they are.

One of the most interesting products that Apple has discontinued this year is the iPhone 13 mini. This model, featuring a 5.4-inch display and slim bezels, was much loved by fans of smaller smartphones. Despite this, according to certain market research firms, sales of this model were low compared to other iPhone models. As a result, Apple decided not to release an iPhone 14 mini last year and to completely cease production of the iPhone mini lineup with the introduction of the iPhone 15 series. Nevertheless, it is still possible to acquire a refurbished iPhone 13 mini on Apple’s online store in the United States.

Farewell to the 13-Inch MacBook Pro

Another product that Apple has decided to discontinue this year is the MacBook Pro 13-inch. This laptop, with a design dated seven years ago, was the last Mac to come equipped with a Touch Bar instead of physical keys. However, it has been replaced by the new 14-inch entry-level MacBook Pro with the M3 chip. The new model offers several improvements over its predecessor, such as the M3 chip, a ProMotion display of 120Hz, a 1080p camera, and more ports.

Goodbye to the MagSafe Battery Pack

In September of this year, Apple also discontinued the production of the MagSafe Battery Pack. Launched in 2021 with a price tag of $99, this accessory could magnetically attach to the back of the iPhone 12 and subsequent models, offering additional battery hours. However, with the introduction of the iPhone 15 models, which are all equipped with a USB-C port, the MagSafe Battery Pack has become obsolete as it was designed with a Lightning charge port.

The End of the MagSafe Duo Charger

Along with the MagSafe Battery Pack, Apple has also discontinued the MagSafe Duo Charger production. This accessory, introduced in 2020 at $129, was a foldable charging mat with a MagSafe charger for the iPhone and a magnetic stand for the Apple Watch. Like the MagSafe Battery Pack, the MagSafe Duo Charger featured a Lightning charge port.

Farewell to Leather Accessories

Lastly, Apple has decided to stop selling its leather accessories in September of this year. This decision is part of the company’s efforts to reduce its environmental footprint. Apple has introduced a new material called FineWoven, which it claims has a ‘significantly lower carbon footprint’ than leather. However, some clients have lamented that the new iPhone cases are easily prone to scuffing and wear.
