Best Halloween Netflix series this autumn

Well, definitely the best way to start the fall season is by getting into the Halloween spirit with a couple of horror shows that you can easily stream on Netflix. Then, get ready to learn about the most well-known creepy series of the present day.

1. Midnight Mass

To begin with, if we’re going to talk about the Netflix series, Midnight Mass is a must-have title. The Mike Flanagan miniseries debuted in time for spooky season in 2021 and became a critical success, but why not if its seven episodes show a darker side of Flanagan’s previous projects, such as The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor.

The plot follows characters in a small fictional town called Crockett Island, where everyone knows each other and goes to church every Sunday, but when a new priest shows up and an apparent miracle takes place, things begin to darken, bringing out the true nature of the “blessing”.

2. Dead end: Paranormal park

It is appropriate for all ages and is based on the comic series DeadEndia by Hamish Steele. An animated series that takes place in a haunted theme park is actually perfect to watch for the spooky season, and if you’re an open-minded person, you’ll enjoy it even more. 

In this story, we follow a trans teenager, his talking pug, a thousand-year-old demon, and their friends as they navigate an actual haunted theme park in which they stumble upon plans for a potential supernatural apocalypse, and it’ll be up to them to save the day.

For the second season (just launched this October), our heroes will face evil twins, new enemies, and the revenge of Pauline Phoenix.

By the way, this animated show has become one of the most beloved among Netflix followers due to its high-quality production, its LGBTQ+ representation, and its inclusive cast. In fact, it already has a loyal fanbase.

3. The Sandman

One of the most recent entries on this list is This is a live-action adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s popular graphic novel of the same name, whose release was highly anticipated by fans of the book, it’s a fantasy series that isn’t straight-up horror, but it’s creepy enough to put you into a spooky mood just in time for Halloween.

Here, we follow Morpheus (the anthropomorphic personification of dreams, who lives in the dreaming world), who, after being captured and held prisoner for over 100 years, has to return in order to set things right again.

Along his journey, Morpheus meets some of his siblings, including Death himself. In addition, he will have to contend with Lucifer and a nightmare wreaking havoc called Corinthia.

4. The Haunting of Bly Manor

Following the success of The Haunting of Hill House, Mike Flanagan releases his 2020 horror series, The Haunting of Bly Manor, based on Henry James’s The Turn of the Screw and other works by the famous novelist, and it stars some of the same cast as Hill House, including Victoria Pedretti, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Kate Siegel, Carla Gugino, and Henry Thomas.

This show is about an American au pair, Dani, who comes to England to care for two young children living at the manor. However, during her stay, she realizes the place is haunted and crowded with dead people. Both innocent and troubled spirits have a story, and Dani will have to help them while protecting the children.

5. The Haunting of Hill House

And finally, it’s the turn of the much-talked-about miniseries Hill House. Though it didn’t have too much popularity the year it was released, it still exceeded all expectations and most critics absolutely loved the show with many praising the acting, directing, and production quality. In addition, viewers applauded the stellar casting, plot twists, unique plot, well-developed characters, and, among other things, the show’s pacing. 

Based on the 1959 book of the same name by Shirley Jackson, The Haunting of Hill House presents a story alternating between two timelines while following a troubled family who works to confront the ghosts of their past, which stems from their old haunted house.

It also served as an anthology series, with The Haunting of Hill House being the first entry and The Haunty of Bly Manor being the second. Unfortunately, Flanagan announced that there would be no more entries to The Haunting anthology series. 

But don’t be sad, because this genius of terror has other horror-related projects coming to Netflix soon, such as The Midnight Club, his latest release, and The Fall of the House of Usher, which will be released in the near future.

6. All of us are dead

Released at a specific time when Korean series were extremely popular. Then, if you really like horror movies related to zombies, you should watch it. All of us are dead is a television adaptation of the Naver webtoon of the same name that follows the story of a group of teenagers who are trying to survive a zombie apocalypse inside their school.

In this spooky season, watch a show full of thrills and chills. It’s also highly addictive, action-packed, and will pull you in from the very first episode. What’s better is that you won’t have to worry about a second season because Netflix has already confirmed that there will be an All of Us Are Dead season 2.

7. You

Technically, it is not a horror series, but its psychological thriller plot is perfect for this era. You see, the story follows sociopathic serial killer Joe Goldberg, who goes to extraordinary lengths to insert himself into the lives of those he becomes obsessed with. Joe has no problem getting rid of anyone who gets in his way, which ultimately gets him in deep trouble and forces him to relocate.

Originally, it was a Lifetime series before television networks were replaced by streaming platforms. Although it was not as popular as when Netflix acquired it and put it in its catalog. At the moment, there have been three seasons released so far, and currently, the fans are waiting for a fourth season scheduled to be released in early 2023.

8. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

This supernatural horror series created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (also responsible for the famous Archie-verse series Riverdale) is the perfect mix if you are looking for a dark but fun show. In fact, Sabrina is also based on a comic book series of the same name, and the

The show lasted two seasons, each split into two parts, and after thousands of pleas from fans for a crossover, it finally happened in Riverdale season 6, which fortunately is on Netflix as well, so if you want to see Sabrina visit the town of Riverdale, be sure to watch episodes 4 and 19 of the season.

Getting back to Sabrina, the story takes place in the fictional town of Greendale and focuses on the life of the eponymous girl, whose life is wrapped up in messes, as in addition to being half-witch, she tries to lead the life of a normal high school student and navigate the dramas of her teenage life while fighting the evil forces that threaten her, her family, and the town itself.

But if you still don’t understand why it’s on this list, we’ll be honest in saying that this spooky season is worth a look if you never gave the series a chance.

9. Stranger Things

Of course, the best way to end this compilation is with one of the most popular series. And, while it is not technically a horror series, the terrifying creatures, science fiction elements, and entertaining characters make it a strong contender. 

Also, since it’s set in the 80’s, we assure you that the show gives off a lot of horror and sci-fi vibes from classics like ET, Alien, The Goonies, and A Nightmare on Elm Street. 

It also includes a lot of constant references and inspiration from horror, supernatural fiction, and sci-fi author Stephen King. If that wasn’t enough, this great show has shown us that with each season, its theme comes back darker and creepier with a more terrifying monster that plagues the city and its heroines.

As we said earlier, Matt and Ross Duffer’s hit is set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, in the 1980s. There, clandestine experiments are carried out with people with special abilities, which cause the opening of an alternative dimension (the Upside Down) that allows supernatural creatures to enter our dimension, which represents a great danger. So, a group of teenagers get together to confront the monsters and rescue one of their friends who is trapped in the alternate dimension.
