Come’on Barbie, let’s go party!: Check out all the movie details here

A couple of days ago, the official trailer of what would be the first live-action adaptation of Barbie caused an impact on all the social networks. As you see, this film will be Greta Gerwig’s last directorial effort who, along with her partner Noah Baumbach, finally decided to tell the story of the famous blonde doll.

In this opportunity, we’ll see Margot Robie as Barbie, while Ryan Gosling will be in charge of interpreting Ken and his damned platinum blonde hair. By now, we have the first advance that shows us a hilarious 2001: A Space Odyssey homage, as we learn how the doll industry in this country went from manufacturing babies to Barbies.

Besides, we get all-too-brief glimpses of Robbie, Gosling, Issa Rae, and Simu Liu hamming it up in Gerwig’s dreamscape and even if there’s not much information, we’re patiently waiting to see what unfolds. However, we’re going to tell you everything we know so far. But first, did you already see the trailer?

Who Is Starring in Barbie?

As we mentioned above, Gosling will star as Ken, specifically a totally broken Ken. And although from the beginning the actor seemed to love the script, it only needed a little push to get him to fully accept the role.

And well, that push came in the form of a Ken doll face down… in the dirt… next to a lemon. Speaking on The Tonight Show, Gosling opened up to host Jimmy Fallon about how he finally decided to accept after he got the initial offer.

“Best script I’ve ever read. I walk out in the backyard and, do you know where I found Ken, Jimmy?” Gosling said, “Face down in the mud next to a squashed lemon. I texted [the photo] to Greta and said, ‘I shall be your Ken, for his story must be told.”

Otherwise, we know that, along Robbie and Gosling, it will be a great variety of actors including: Kate McKinnon, N’Cuti Gatwa, Emma Mackey, America Fererra, Will Ferrell, Michael Cera, Hari Nef, Alexandra Shipp, Kingsley Ben- Adir, Rhea Perlman, Emerald Fennell, Sharon Rooney, Ariana Greenblatt y Jamie Demetriou.

What Is Barbie About?

To be honest, we cannot be absolutely certain about what this story is going to tell us. Nonetheless, we can asure you that it won’t be a classic, straightforward and fluffy movie á la Barbie Life in The Dreamhouse.

Actually, Robbie spoke for The Hollywood Reporter and confirmed: “People immediately have an idea of, ‘Oh, Margot is playing Barbie, I know what that is,'” she said, “But our goal is to be like, ‘Whatever you’re thinking, we’re going to give you something totally different—the thing you didn’t know you wanted.'”

Furthermore, several rumors have been confirmed about how the film will house multiple Barbies and according to what Emma Mackey (Sex Education and Death on The Nile) has told to Empire, they even have time for a sleepover amongst the Barbie cast that has fans very excited:

“Right in the beginning, we had a sleepover for the Barbies, which would involve playing games with Scott [Evans] and Ncuti [Gatwa],” she said. Therefore, we can infer this is not the story of a single girl. Moreover, Mackey later added that she was happy to have made a pure American-style comedy film.

When Does Barbie Release?

Finally, as announced by Warner Bros., the movie is set to hit theaters on July 21, 2023. So you can start planning to go and take a look at it.
