Fortnite’s generous new creator economy has an Epic catch

By eduardogaitancortez

Epic Games introduced the Creator Economy 2.0 for Fortnite. This new idea begins with the early launch of Collaboration Payments. An exciting way for eligible island creators to receive collaboration-based money for their content published on islands. With Collaboration Payments, Epic is reserving 40 percent of net profits from the Fortnite Item Shop and related real-money purchases for the Collaboration Fund. Contribution payments will be made monthly from this fund to publishers on each of the eligible islands. Including independent creators’ islands and Epic-owned islands such as Battle Royale. Payments are based on the player’s collaboration with each island, as explained later.

Economy 2.0

Epic Games’ Creator Economy 2.0 idea seeks to further reward creators for their creative work on Fortnite. Epic’s Author Support program, which underpinned the Creator Economy 1.0, remains, however it returns to its roots as an affiliate marketing program for streamers and social media content creators. Eradicated the Author Support device on Fortnite islands to keep the game focused on fun. Players now have the ability to show their support for their favorite creators’ islands simply by playing them. Collaboration payouts decorate island building that players enjoy.

Currently, payments are based on collaborative metrics that contribute to the health of the overall Fortnite ecosystem. At launch, the metrics are split into 2 sets: Player Fame and Player Retention. Islands that attract new players and re-engage players who have stopped playing, and islands where players return day by day and week by week indicate compelling gameplay. With time, it is expected that the tracking metrics will change in functionality from creator and player feedback, and will update as changes are made.

Payment

Collaboration payments remain accessible to legal entities such as organizations and island creators over the age of 18, whose Fortnite accounts are at least 90 days old. Work is being done on extending the program to younger creators in the future and updates will be shared as they become accessible. When you are accepted into the program, you will see the new collaboration earnings data in the Payments tab of your author dashboard. Here, you will be able to keep track of your earnings. The author dashboard will continue to be updated with additional information and data. To help island creators plan for future development.

Each Island Publisher will have a dedicated web presence at Fortnite.com/@ that can be customized to represent their brand and experiences within the Fortnite ecosystem. Islands can be added to a playlist by registered players to be found easily the next time. Contribution Payments funds are separate from “Support an Author” and are intended to compensate island creators who publish content in Fortnite. We have completely removed the “Support an Author” feature from the game, which means creators can focus on creating fun and entertaining experiences without asking you to use their author code. Every time you play on your favorite island or game in Fortnite, you financially support its author, without the need for a code.
