How To Change The Email On An Xbox Account

By Valentina Tuta

There are many reasons to change the email address on your Xbox account. For example, it could be an old address that you want to get rid of—one that is filled with spam and unnecessary emails—or maybe you want to organize all your accounts under one address.

But whatever the reason, in this article we will show you how to change your registered email address on your Xbox account to avoid losing important messages.

Changing the Email Address on Your Xbox Account

Changing the old email address on your Xbox Live account requires you to change the details on your Microsoft account. Well, sadly, the two services are connected, and Xbox does not have a dedicated website of its own.

However, be cautious. If the email you used to sign up is a Microsoft domain (such as @hotmail.com, @outlook.com or @live.com), the email will be permanently deleted. Keep in mind that Microsoft does not allow repeated use of any email address you have added or created, even if the address has been deleted.

Therefore, to change your email, you must go to your Microsoft account page. Also, if you forgot your credentials, go to the Microsoft forgotten email or password page and then follow these steps:

  1. First, sign in to your Microsoft account if you have not already done so.
  2. Then, click on the “Your Information” navigation link at the top of the page.
  3. After that, scroll down the page to the “account information” section and then click on “Edit account information” on the right.
  4. There, the “Manage how you sign in to Microsoft” page will appear. So click on “add email” under the “Account Aliases” section.
  5. Type in the new “email address,”  then click “Add Alias.”
  6. Next, follow the instructions displayed to verify the address you just entered.
  7. Click “Make Primary” to make the new email address the primary email address for your account.
  8. Now, you can delete the old email if you wish, as long as it is no longer the primary email. Choose which alias you want to delete, then click “Delete.”
  9. Select “Confirm” to complete the deletion process.
  10. You should now have a new email to sign in to your Xbox account.

Replacing a Lost Xbox Email Address

Now, if you lost your Xbox login email or forgot the password you used to sign in, changing the old one will be slightly different as Xbox support cannot help you change the address, so you will have to try to sign in to your account.

To find the email address you used to sign up for Xbox, there are several ways, and once you have the correct email, you can use it to sign in to your account, change your password, or add an email alias.

1. Check Alternate Email Accounts to Find Your Primary Xbox Email

First of all, if you used an alternate email as an additional alias or have a second one for confirmation emails, you may want to check your old messages, as any email that includes Microsoft billing or Xbox Live information may contain your primary Xbox email address.

2. Find Your Primary Xbox Email using Family Group

If your email is associated with a family group, you can have that family member log into the account and look up the email address associated with your account.

3. How to Find/View Xbox Account Email using Xbox 360

  1. Using the Xbox console you can also find your email address by highlighting your “Gamer Tag” or “Gamer ID.” If the email fails to display, continue to Step 2.
  2. If the email is not visible, you probably edited the settings to hide this information. If this is your case, open the Guide by pressing the “Xbox” button.
  3. Choose “Profile.”
  4. Select “Settings.”
  5. Choose “Account.”
  6. Scroll down to the “Your Information” section and choose “Account Security.”
  7. Your registered Xbox email appears on the right.

4. How to Find/View Xbox Account Email using Xbox One S/X

  1. Open the Guide by pressing the “Xbox” button in the middle.
  2. Select “Settings.”
  3. Choose “Account.”
  4. Select “Sign-in, security, & passkey.
  5. Enter your “passkey” (if applicable) using the numeric pad on the right of the screen.
  6. Select “Change my sign-in & security preferences.”
  7. Your email appears under the “Show on Home” option in the middle column on the screen, which you’ll use to log in or change the password.

5. How to Find/View Xbox Account Email using Xbox Series X/S

  1. Open the Guide by pressing the “Xbox” button in the middle.
  2. Select “Settings.”
  3. Navigate to “Account > Sign-in, security, & passkey.
  4. The “Show on Home” section displays your registered email address.

Once you find your primary Xbox email, use it to log onto your account, recover your lost password, change the primary email, or add an alias email.

Following the right steps

In short, if you need to change the email on your Xbox account, you can do it easily if you follow the right steps. Well, that is, unless you have forgotten your primary email or password. Otherwise, you will first need to find a way to retrieve your primary Xbox email address, which includes using alternate emails, Xbox Family Group, Xbox 360, Xbox One X/S, or Xbox Series X/S.
