The last season of Star Trek: Picard is here!

March 1, 2023
The highly-anticipated third and final season of Star Trek: Picard has landed, reuniting Sir Patrick Stewart with most of his The Next Generation co-stars, including LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn and Gates McFadden who are reprising their roles as crew members Lt Commander Geordi La Forge, Worf and Dr Beverly Crusher, respectively.
For that reason, it’s time to talk more about everything the producers want to present to us and why you should watch it if you haven’t already. In this note we’re going to teach you some basic data you should have in mind like its release data, the first official trailers and more about the plot.
More about the series
In the first instance, we should talk about the first episode that arrived on Paramount Plus at the beginning of February this year. Here, we are introduced to retired Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) getting underway, when he suddenly receives a coded distress call from Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden).
As the official synopsis for season 3 confirms, “A desperate message from a long-lost friend draws Starfleet legend Admiral Jean-Luc Picard into the most daring mission of his life, forcing him to recruit allies spanning generations old and new. Furthermore, “This final adventure sets him on a collision course with the legacy of his past and explosive, new revelations that will alter the fate of the Federation forever.”
But what is the reason for its success after such a long time?
On the other hand, it should be noted that this season had a lot of success initially due to the loyalty to the classic story that despite bringing in new characters and storylines, has managed to handle the characters, locations and even starships that have always held the audience captive.
For instance, one element of the season that has captured attention is the canon introduction of the Enterprise-F starship, which has been a favourite of die-hard fans since it first appeared in the Star Trek Online video game.
Check out the trailer
However, the reveal of the official synopsis only complemented the anticipation of fans, who since the New York Comic Con show in October 2022, were already fully expecting the official trailer to be announced. If you haven’t seen it, you can watch it here.
Likewise, the long-followers of the series were really happy when another trailer was presented in January 2023, and finally the last and perhaps most important teaser which revealed new casting, dropped in February 2023. Check it out here!
Release date
Okay, US fans, Star Trek: Picard premiered on Paramount + on Thursday 16 February and will have weekly updates. For those of you following the series from the UK, you’ll probably already have the full season, as after the premiere, all episodes will arrive the next day on Prime Video’s platform.
It’s worth noting that there had been some uncertainty over whether the new season would still air on Prime Video in the UK, given that Paramount+ has now launched over here too. Nevertheless, new episodes will remain on Prime Video, it has been confirmed.
To finish, as a fun fact, production on seasons 2 and 3 took place back to back, with the third entry intended to be the last – although that decision could be reversed, according to executive producer Alex Kurtzman. So be sure to stay tuned!
