Best Smart Alarm Clocks of 2023

By Valentina Tuta

Who needs a smart alarm when you have smartphones with clocks included by default? Well, that’s a very valid question. Nevertheless, there are a lot of reasons why you should consider changing your classic alarm on your phone for a smart alarm.

As you see, you’ll have more advantages such as setting special alarms, simulating the light of a sunrise and sunset, getting some time away from your phone screen, and most importantly, improving your nightly routine.

That’s why today we’re going to show you which are some of the best smart alarm clocks of 2023 so that you can decide if you want to continue with your mobile or get one of these.

What to Look For in a Smart Alarm Clock in 2023

We mentioned above that many users tend to choose their phones instead of investing on a clunky, bedside gadget. But the truth is that with a new wave of products reinventing what it means to be an alarm clock, that notion is starting to change.

Smart alarm clocks offer everything you’d expect from a bedside clock, along with a bevy of smart home features that make them the perfect nighttime companion and they also come in a wide variety of form factors and offer dozens of unique features—and with so many options on the market, it can be hard to find the right one for your home.

Nonetheless, if you want to get one, first you have to figure out your budget, as these products range from as little as $30 to well over $100. Moreover, you’ll also need to determine what you want from a smart alarm clock since the more features you want, the more you’ll end up paying.

Best Smart Alarm Clock Overall: Philips SmartSleep Wake-Up Light

Certainly, this is not the cheaper option. However, the Philips SmartSleep Wake-Up Light (designed around a massive, customizable light bulb) didn’t cut any corners when crafting this premium smart alarm clock.

With 20 different brightness settings, five wake-up sounds, and a display that automatically dims when needed, according to Philips, it’s one of the most recommended by physicians and pharmacists if you want to develop healthy sleeping patterns.

Although it has an important downside: it’s not as “smart” as you’d expect. Unlike many devices in the Philips lineup, the SmartSleep won’t connect with smart home ecosystems like Alexa or Google Home, just with the Philips Hue ecosystem. While its a minor complaint, you should keep it in mind if you’re looking for an alarm clock that can integrate with the rest of your smart home.

Best Premium Smart Alarm Clock: Hatch Restore Smart Alarm Clock

In the second place we have the Hatch Restore Smart Alarm Clock, one of the most interesting devices in this field. Not only does it offer the usual suite of alarm clock features, but it’s built around a massive night light that’s fully customizable—much like the Philips SmartSleep.

Furthermore, it’s a multi-purpose device that can be used as light before bed, as a night light while you’re sleeping, and can even simulate the sunrise when you start to wake up. Of course, all the features that it offers are powered by an intuitive smartphone app that lets you personalize your settings, along with touch controls on the alarm so you can easily start a routine when you’re ready for bed.

To finish, if that’s not enough for you, you’ll be happy to know that you’ll also benefit from sleep sounds that are designed to help you unwind and get a good night’s sleep—although you’ll need to spring for a monthly membership to gain access to the full library of sounds and features.

Best Budget Smart Alarm Clock: Lenovo Smart Clock 2 with Charging Station

The Lenovo Smart Clock 2 is sold as a standalone product, but your best bet is to purchase the bundle that includes a charging station. This is essentially a large bar that the alarm clock sits on top of, with the leftover space serving as a charging pad for your smartphone.

The pad does result in a footprint that’s nearly twice as large as the clock itself, but unless you’re working with a cramped nightstand, that shouldn’t be an issue. Although you won’t find as many innovative features in the Lenovo Smart Clock 2 as you will with the Hatch Restore or Philips SmartSleep Wake-Up Light, this is an affordable smart alarm clock that nails the basics.
