Jack Ryan season 3 everything you need to know
December 2, 2022
Jack Ryan season 3 is almost here after a long, long wait for fans, and we even have the first trailer to enjoy. And it’s been three years since Jack has been on our screens as the second season, which ended with our protagonist having a couple of very close calls, aired in October 2019.
But where the heck had he been in the last few years? Well, that will be our topic of conversation today. So stick around if you want to find out all the details on Jack Ryan.
When does Jack Ryan season 3 air?
Despite the long waiting period, we finally know that the third season of Jack Ryan will be arriving on Prime Video on Wednesday, December 21. Also, just like the previous two seasons, the third will be eight episodes long.
And if that wasn’t enough, the show has already confirmed a fourth season, but that will be the final one. Although there is no set release date for this season, hopefully we won’t be waiting that long.
Watch the Jack Ryan season 3 trailer here!
The first trailer for Jack Ryan season 3 was released in October 2022, and if you missed it above, you can watch it here. As you’ll see in the footage, the CIA’s titular financial analyst went AWOL, and his superior, James Greer, warned him, “Every day you’re on the run, you’re digging a hole you may not be able to get out of…
So it turns out that a “small group” of Russians have formed a plan to preserve the USSR, and this involves detonating a nuclear attack. And when Jack jumps into action, he states, “It was never just about a nuclear bomb; it’s about starting a world war!”
Cast: Who’s coming back for Jack Ryan season 3?
John Krasinski will obviously reprise his role as Jack Ryan, and Wendell Pierce will rejoin him as James Greer, as it looks like the aforementioned is finally done with the field work due to his heart problems that wreaked havoc during the second installment.
Hence, we’d say he earned a nice spot at the desk after being held captive. Although this also means that Greer will likely take on a more administrative role, Ryan will need a new field partner.
Now, it was previously thought that Michael Kelly, who played CIA field officer Mike November, would not be returning. But it has since been reported that he will appear in upcoming episodes.
Unfortunately, it was announced that Betty Gabriel (Get Out, Clickbait) replaced Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Blindspot) as Elizabeth Wright, the station chief (via Deadline). According to the publication, Baptiste stepped down due to “creative differences.”
Also, according to some reports, other new cast members include:
- James Cosmo (His Dark Materials, Game of Thrones) as Luca
- Peter Guinness (Cursed) as Petr
- Nina Hoss (Homeland) as Alena
- Alexej Manvelov (Before We Die) as Alexei
Michael Peña on Jack Ryan’s new season
Amazon has also announced that Michael Peña will be joining the cast in an undisclosed role. Nevertheless, this was later revealed to be Domingo Chavez, a member of the CIA who was a regular feature in a number of Clancy’s novels.
In fact, he’s someone we should be keeping an eye on, considering reports via Deadline that after season four wraps, there’s a potential Domingo will lead a spin-off. Peña’s credits include the Ant-Man movies, Terence in the live-action animation of Tom and Jerry, American Hustle and the Netflix series Narcos: Mexico.
On the other hand, in news related to the casting of Jack Ryan, it was announced that Zuleikha Robinson and Okieriete Onaodowan will join the cast of Season 4. Moreover, each is said to be a regular in the action series, as Robinson will take on the role of Zeyara and Onaodowan will play Adebayo “Ade” Osoji.
Also, fans should get excited, as Deadline reported that Abbie Cornish’s Cathy Mueller, who was notably absent in Season 2, will return in the future.
In fact, she’s a cast favorite, but it’s no surprise since the story surrounding Cathy Mueller feels unfinished and a lot of fans have demanded answers about her exit. However, fans will just have to wait until Season 4 for her return.
Her return (reported via Deadline) will no doubt address the mystery surrounding the abrupt ending of Cathy and Ryan’s romance. Considering neither gave their relationship a proper ending, the only clue is a throwaway mention that Jack is single.
Currently, the creators have kept quiet as there is no information on how Cathy will make her comeback. But hey, it’s surely more satisfying than her exit.
What will happen in Jack Ryan season 3?
So far, we already have our release date and a trailer, plus a synopsis of Jack’s next mission that, truth be told, leaves us very expectant:
“When CIA analyst Jack Ryan stumbles upon a suspicious series of bank transfers, his search for answers takes him out of the safety of his desk job and catapults him into a deadly game of cat-and-mouse across Europe and the Middle East, with a terrorist leader on the rise. We are preparing for a massive attack against the U.S. and its allies.”
Finally, remember that the first two seasons of Jack Ryan are available to stream now on Prime Video, and if you haven’t checked them out yet, you should do so soon, as the third installment is just around the corner.
