Learn About Twitch’s Tips to Grow your Audience

By Alex Balaniuc

As a Twitch streamer, you already know very well how challenging growing your audience on the platform is. There are mainly 3 things, in my opinion, that can increase your chances of building an ever-growing community: making entertaining content, having a personality, as well as having a pretty face.

But apart from these qualities – which are pretty difficult to develop all at once – there are other strategies that can help you gather a crowd of adoring fans around you on the live streaming platform: let’s learn about some tips on how to build your community on Twitch!

Engage your audience

Bonding with the people who follow you is a great way to make them feel appreciated and validated. A streamer that cares for their audience is able to create a more wholesome, accepting and fun environment. Bonds will grow whenever viewers are greeted by familiar names in chat, have their questions answered by you or your moderators, and see others enjoying the stream. Try striking up a conversation about the most random and relatable topics to engage your viewers and make them feel acknowledged, and show interest in what they have to say. Think of it as a conversation with friends.

Set up Watch Parties

Watch Party is a cool new feature that allows you and your community to enjoy any movie and TV show available with your Amazon Prime or Prime Video subscription. Here are the steps to start your own Watch Party:

– first, add the Watch Party Quick Action to your Stream Manager in the Creator Dashboard

– then open Watch Parties and sign in with your Prime or Prime Video account

– now, in the catalog, search for any title available with your Prime or Prime Video subscription, or browse the list of curated titles below the search bar

– click “Start Watch Party” and the title you selected will automatically stream to the video player on your channel

Note: the option to “Start Watch Party” will be disabled if you are not streaming your facecam, so be sure to start your stream first.

– go to your channel page to watch along with your community, and that’s it!

Watch Parties are great to keep viewers coming back to your channel. Just choose a specific day and time to stream a movie or TV show of your choice (or your audience’s), and see your viewers consistently tune in on that day at the same hour.

Connect with your Twitch peers

Networking with other streamers is a very effective tool for growing your community, forming genuine connections with your fellow streamers and introducing your fans to your favorite content on the platform. This sort of works as channel promotion: in fact, another creator giving a shout out to your channel will result in new curious viewers coming to watch your content, and consequently boost your subscriber count. The best ways to connect with your Twitch peers and promote their content are Raids, Hosting/Autohosting and Events.

Enable alerts

Alerts will help you cherish the contributions of your viewers and make them feel acknowledged. You can use these on-screen visuals in pretty much every situation in which you want to actively appreciate your viewers: from thanking a new subscriber for following, to sound alerts that sound off at epic cheer levels, to celebrating a Hype Train in chat, the ways you can customize your alerts during your streams are endless.
