Top Upcoming Games in 2022

By Alex Balaniuc

2022 started with a bang in regards to the video game industry. It’s not an exaggeration to say that the lineup of titles we’ve been presented with so far took the world by storm: first we got Pokémon Legends: Arceus in January, then Horizon Forbidden West and Elden Ring, which were released a month later.

But the exceptional releases this year are only going to increase in number, since there are lots of other promising games on the way. So sit back, grab your wallet, and start checking on your finances, because in this article we’re going to take a look at the most interesting upcoming video games in 2022!

10 of the most anticipated games this year

The highly anticipated games this year are way too many and couldn’t make it all into the list, so I’ll admit that I picked the ones that have ties to other existing media, such as sequels and spin-offs, or have well-known studios behind them. Surely, video games that are derived from already beloved franchises or sagas will be of much more interest to the public.

With that said, let’s find out about 10 new games that are coming out in 2022: Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, Saints Row, God of War: Ragnarök, Bayonetta 3, Forspoken, Hogwarts Legacy, Lord of the Rings: Gollum, Starfield, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2.

1) Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands

Scheduled for MARCH 25

A Borderlands spin-off, TTW focuses on the titular character Tiny Tina, who becomes the dungeon master within her own story, able to warp reality to her liking. This game detaches itself from the sci-fi setting typical of the Borderlands series, and it ventures more into the fantastical and whimsical side of things.

2) Saints Row

Scheduled for AUGUST 23

Prepare to fill the shoes of The Boss in this new Saints Row iteration, a reboot of the OG game that started it all. Fight enemy street gangs in city-wide turf wars, find your place within Santo Ileso by taking over its various districts and securing the bag for you and your teammates.

3) God of War: Ragnarök

Scheduled for SEPTEMBER 30

The ninth installment of the God of War series, GOW: Ragnarök, is coming this year. One of the PlayStation brand flagship titles, GOW grants players full immersion in a setting based on Norse mythology. This new iteration will focus on the journey undertaken by Kratos and his son Atreus as they battle the hardships and catastrophic events brought upon them by Ragnarök.

4) Bayonetta 3

Scheduled for AUTUMN

Announced in 2017, it seems like Bayonetta 3 will finally grace us with its presence in autumn 2022. Nintendo hasn’t stated the exact release date yet, but we may be right in thinking that the game will drop in autumn, following the trend set by the first two titles of the series. The daring, sexy, shapeshifting Bayonetta will accompany many players worldwide in another stylish adventure, enhanced by the witch’s signature weapons, the guns, and her overflowing charm.

5) Forspoken

Scheduled for OCTOBER 11

Born from the relatively new Luminous Productions, a subsidiary of Square Enix formed in 2018, Forspoken tells the story of Frey Holland, a young woman who inexplicably finds herself catapulted into another world, Athia. Frey will need to use her magical powers in order to get by in this fantasy setting, governed by the tyrannical Tanta family, and disturbed by hostile creatures.

6) Hogwarts Legacy

Scheduled for AUTUMN

Harry Potter fans around the globe, rejoice: it’s actually happening, we’re getting an exciting, open-world magical adventure set in the best witchcraft and wizardry school of all time, Hogwarts! While the game takes place in the 1800s, meaning no Harry-Ron-Hermione shenanigans, the prospect of being able to explore Hogwarts, cast spells and attending classes is super thrilling nonetheless.

7) Lord of the Rings: Gollum

Scheduled for AUTUMN

2022 is a lucky year for fantasy literature enthusiasts: first we got Elden Ring, created in collaboration with George R. R. Martin, then Hogwarts Legacy is on its way, and, lastly, Lord of the Rings: Gollum will be released this autumn. LOTR: Gollum focuses on the titular monstrous character’s tale, or, to be more exact, on his past. The game, in fact, is set before the events of both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

8) Starfield

Scheduled for NOVEMBER

Starfield is Bethesda‘s next project, a title that is undoubtedly special, since it will be the company’s brand-new intellectual property after a whopping 25 years. The game is a treat for those who love space-themed stories: begin your journey as a space explorer from The Settled Systems and discover new planets in the aftermath of the bloody Colony War.

9) The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2

Scheduled for NOVEMBER

The Legend of Zelda, Nintendo’s household name, is making a comeback this year with a sequel to Breath of the Wild. While the Japanese company is being quite secretive about it, we know at least one thing regarding this new entry: in BOTW 2, Link will be able to extensively navigate the skies of Hyrule, in an enchanting high-altitude adventure.

10) S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl

Scheduled for DECEMBER

The Kyiv-based development team GSC has been working on the follow-up to the very first game in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, Shadow of Chernobyl, released in 2007. Heart of Chornobyl is the latest installment of the acclaimed survival horror saga set in the forbidden and contaminated territory surrounding the Chornobyl nuclear power plant.

There’s a very high chance that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl’s launch will be post-poned, due to the ongoing war in Ukraine. But when the game will hopefully be released, a great way of showing support to GSC and Ukraine would be to purchase it.
