A new Twitter CEO? What a difficult year for Twitter!

A new Twitter CEO? What a difficult year for Twitter!

By Valentina Tuta

It seems that after so many controversies, Elon Musk is finally ready to step back and hand over his position as CEO to someone else. However, there are a lot of things that should be told and understood. So, let’s take a quick look at what happened with the acquisition of Twitter and what is happening now with Musk.

The Twitter takeover story

Twitter’s purchasing process began when Elton Musk bought about 9.2% of the company’s stock earlier this year and became the company’s largest shareholder. Nevertheless, after making his offer to buy the company at around $44 billion, the deal went back and forth for a while.

And well, eventually, Musk and Twitter finalized the acquisition at $54.20 per share. But that’s hardly the end, as once Musk became the owner of the social network, he started implementing big changes with which many users didn’t agree.

At the same time, Twitter’s top executive and half of the company’s staff were fired. All of this without mention that Musk changed some content moderation policies, quickly becoming the most difficult moment Twitter has ever gone through.

Musk’s survey

Having that in mind, it’s time to talk about what’s happening now and why there would be a chance that Twitter would get a different CEO. Well, as dramatically as his bid to buy the micro-blogging platform, Elon Musk decided to create a poll asking the Twitter people whether he should leave the position of Twitter chief and let someone else take control.

Of course, the poll didn’t end in his favor (in fact, the final count of the poll indicated that 57.5% of users wanted Musk out of the big chair). Then, Musk was quick to respond that he would step down as soon as he finds a suitable replacement who is “foolish enough” to take charge.

Other factors

Nonetheless, if we analyze his decision in depth, we’ll find that although the poll results might be one reason Mush is considering to resign, other factors are at play. For instance, Tesla’s stock has been on a significant downhill slide since Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, took over as Twitter’s CEO.

Since Musk’s priority has always been Tesla and closely related ventures, he might be stepping down to reset his time commitments. But, whatever the real reason, we’re sure you’ll be interested in hearing what the audience has to say about it, don’t you?

Bess Kalb

As you see, a day after the billionaire made his declaration, a Twitter user has gone viral for her satirical thread on becoming the company’s next CEO. The Emmy-nominated writer Bess Kalb jokingly thanked Musk through a five-post thread on the platform for appointing her as the new Twitter CEO and taking a few digs at his mismanagement.

And well, as a comedy writer, Kalb has the skills enough to create complex sarcastic jokes which also shed light on the actual reality. In the first tweet, she said that she felt humbled, honored, and frankly still in shock to be the new CEO of Twitter.

You can take a look at the complete post here. And if you were still wondering if Kalb will really be at the helm of Twitter, clearly it’s a no, especially after publishing a long thread mocking Musk and his failures.
