Does Google Meet Work with any Email Address?

April 24, 2021
Google Meet is a video-chatting and conferencing service that turned very useful for millions of people around the globe in times of social distancing. Designed primarily for business and office use, it allows coworkers to meet via video conferences, but there’s also the possibility of communicating among participants by sending text messages in the chat section. Meet is built for communication between dozens of people who join the same virtual meeting, and speak or share video with each other from anywhere with Internet access. Using Google Meet is the easiest thing on earth: you’ll only need an email address to access this free and available to everyone service. You can participate in a video meeting when invited through a link, but you can start your own meetings yourself and invite other people.
Why should you use Google Meet?
Meet video conferences are an important tool for keeping personal bonds strong and tight, and they can help us when we feel lonely. Video calling has become an incredibly valuable asset to most people’s everyday lives, because it offers a certain degree of human connection even when we’re hundreds of miles apart from each other. Working from home and going to online classes over the past year was made possible also thanks to services like Google Meet.
Can you use a different email address than Gmail on Google Meet?
Google Meet started off in 2017 as being only available to users who had a Google G Suite account or a Google account with a Gmail address. Not anymore, though, after the March 2020 update: in fact, this service offered by Google has been made accessible to everyone without the need of creating a G Suite account. Even better, you won’t even specifically need a Gmail email address to use Meet, because you can simply use any email you previously created. The only thing you’ll have to do is creating a Google account if you don’t already have one, and this is mandatory to use any of Google’s services.
Before you can start using Meet create a Google Account
Before you start using Meet, then, you’ll have to enter your info – first name, last name, email address, password – to create a Google Account. As already mentioned, you can use any email address you prefer, it’s not necessary to also create a Gmail email address. Once you select Next, a verification code will be sent to the email address you entered to prove that it’s actually you; check your email inbox to find it.
You can also enable verification via phone number in the last step. Now that you have a Google account, you can start Meet meetings or join them whenever you need!
