What is Airtel? Google is going to invest almost 1 million dollars in the Indian telecom operator Airtel. Bharti Airtel is an Indian multinational telecommunication service company. It operates in 20 nations among Asia, Africa and the islands of the channel and it is headquartered in New Delhi, India. Airtel ranks amongst the 3 top mobile services providers in the world in terms of subscribers. Airtel offers different types of services: Mobile Services, in fact it offers GSM mobile services in all the 22 telecom circles of India; Home Services because it offers fixed-line telephone over 93 cities in India and Digital TV Services, offering high definition HD digital Tv services with 3D capabilities too. Bharti Airtel is so big that it had over 403 million customers across its operation in March 2019

The investment. This new Google’s investment is the latest in a series of bets that Google has made on the world’s second biggest internet market as part of a 10 billion dollars commitment to the country. Google said that it will invest 700 million dollars to buy the 1,28% of participation in Airtel because it is the second largest telecom operator in India. In fact, it has over 300 million subscribers and in addition, it will pour up quite 300 mion dollars more to explore multi year commercial agreements with the telecommunication company. The two huge companies stated that they will collaborate so as to expand Airtel’s offering to cover a large range of Android devices to their consumers through innovative affordability programs. Furthermore, Google and Airtel said they will also get in touch with smartphone markets to make more convenience products. This new announcement comes at a moment when Airtel and Vodafone are trying to look for ways to repay billions of dollars that they owe to the Indian government. Vodafone made the Indian government its biggest shareholder by giving away over 35% of its property to New Delhi. Vodafone and Airtel are in competition with Jio Platforms that is managed by the richest man in Asia, Mukesh Ambani. In fact, Google collaborated with Jio Platform. They built a custom Android smartphone that they said would have been aimed at the masses, but the smartphone is expensive enough to reach much of the population. Actually, this smartphone costs 87 dollars, and during an event in 2017, Pichai affirmed that the medium smartphone in India costs 30 dollars. Anyway, it is important to say that with over 600 million internet customers, India is one of the last great growth markets for the American teacher groups.
