Did your friends just surprise you with a Nintendo gift card for your birthday? If the answer is yes, then you’re probably looking forward to redeem the 16-digit code on the Nintendo eShop, so that you’ll be able to purchase any game you want. But did you know that you can also redeem Nintendo download codes online while using a browser? In fact, you won’t necessarily need to do it from your Nintendo console.

Then, in this article, let’s find out how to redeem a Nintendo eShop download code online!

What to know about Nintendo download codes

Before we start, there are some things you should know about redeeming Nintendo codes:

– first and foremost, you’ll need to create a Nintendo Account

– in case you’re using a Wii U or Nintendo 3DS, you’re required to link your Nintendo Network ID to your Nintendo Account (I’ll explain how in a minute)

– if the code is for Nintendo Switch content, you’ll need to access the Nintendo eShop on the Switch first

– download codes on the 3DS regarding in-game DLCs and Themes can’t be redeemed online, since:

— in-game DLCs can only be redeemed within the specific video game

— Theme codes can only be redeemed in the Theme Shop

Here’s how it works:

– open your preferred web browser, and go to ec.nintendo.com/redeem/#/

– now click Sign in and enter your Nintendo Account e-mail address and password

– then, select Sign in again

– next, grab the 16-digit download code you want to redeem, and enter it

– when you’re done, click Next

– when prompted, re-enter your Nintendo Account password

– lastly, select Redeem to complete the process

– you should get a confirmation e-mail to the e-mail address registered to your Nintendo Account

Link your Nintendo Network ID to your Nintendo Account (Wii U & 3DS)

Wii U and 3DS users, as mentioned before, must link their Nintendo Network ID to their Nintendo Account.

Follow the steps below to do just that online:

– for starters, go to the Nintendo Account website

sign in to your Nintendo Account

– now click User info, after that scroll down to the Linked accounts section and click Edit

— if the Nintendo Account is for a child, this option will say Link a Nintendo Network ID

– then, click the box next to Nintendo Network ID

– follow the steps onscreen in order to add your Nintendo Network ID and password

— it’s important that the NNID date of birth and country settings match the date of birth

— if you can’t remember your NNID or password, use the Forgot your ID? or Forgot your password? links on the screen: by doing so, you’ll request an email with the information
