Indiana Jones will finally have its fifth movie!

February 5, 2023
It’s official, we’ll have Indiana Jones 5! The exciting trailer, which confirmed the title as Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, was released as an early festive treat on December 1, giving fans the first taste of what to expect from Indy’s final adventure.
And we can say this will be the real end as Harrison Ford has been pretty open in saying that this is definitely it. “I just thought it would be nice to see one where Indiana Jones was at the end of his journey,” he said of his decision to return.
Of course the film has a lot of fans very excited because it has been 15 years since Kingdom of the Crystal Skull arrived in cinemas and the current trailer promises that it’ll be worth the wait though, showcasing the impressive cast and fan favourite returns. That’s why we’re going to talk a little about the most important details.
Indiana Jones it’s genuinely coming
The first official trailer
During the D23 Expo in September 2022, the first official trailer was revealed. However, the production team decided to keep the full title off the clip to surprise everybody. A couple of months later, specifically on December 1st, the trailer appeared online after another airing at the CCXP in Brazil. Did you miss it? You can check it out here!
Release date
The film is set to hit the big screen on June 30th, 2023, barring any further delays – of which there have so far been many. For his part, Frank Marshall, the long-time Indiana Jones producer, confirmed in February 2022 that production had finally finished after several delays.
Furthermore, James Mangold (who took over directing from Steven Spielberg) is determined to ensure it’s worth the wait: “I understand wariness; I live it,” he wrote on Twitter. “I don’t know if I’ll make you happy, but my team and I will knock ourselves out trying to make something good.”
Besides, we have to keep in mind that it was upposed to be in cinemas in July 2019. That date was then shifted back to July 10, 2020, and then Disney pushed the release back again by another year to July 9, 2021, and then to July 29, 2022. Then, we hope this time there won’t be any problems.
Cast
First of all, it’s clear that we’ll have Harrison Ford starring as our hatted hero again. What’s more, Ford has even said that no one else can play Indiana Jones apart from him: “When I’m gone, he’s gone. It’s easy. Get it in [your head].”
Moreover, Ford won’t be the only old-school actor that will appear in this sequel, as the trailer shows the return of John Rhys-Davies as Sallah for the first time since Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
Regarding new characters, we’ll have Phoebe Waller-Bridge playing Indy’s goddaughter Helena who, according to the star, is a “mystery and a wonder”, with her performance inspired by Barbara Stanwyck’s role in 1941 comedy The Lady Eve.
Taking on villain duties in the fifth movie is Mads Mikkelsen as Voller who was loosely inspired by real-life Nazi-turned-NASA-engineer Wernher von Braun, with The Predator star Boyd Holbrook on hand as Voller’s “lapdog” Klaber.
Plot: What will Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny be about?
By now, we just can make some guesses regarding the official plot of this sequel. Everything seems to indicate that Indy and Helena will obviously be on some adventure to get their hands on a powerful MacGuffin before Voller and his cronies do. The big rumour is that the titular “Dial of Destiny”, if that is the MacGuffin, will have time-travel powers. Nonetheless, this is only an assumption, so we can only stay tuned.
