How to remove auto-capitalization on Android in a few moves

By auroraoddi

If you want to find out how to remove auto-capitalization from your Android, you’ve come to the right place. You have come into possession of a new smartphone and want to change its settings. Specifically those of the keyboard. All phones on the market today give you the ability to make this change directly from your device’s settings.

You may have noticed that whenever you type a message, write in notes, make a post on a Social Network, the initial letter of the sentence is always capitalized. Do you want to change this setting? Don’t worry, the steps to follow are very simple.

How do you remove the auto-capitalization?

Auto-capitalization is a feature of smartphones that capitalizes the first letter of a sentence. If you want to remove auto-capitalization in an Android, the steps to follow are quick and easy. Remember, however, that sometimes grammar rules dictate that we must remain lowercase on certain words or phrases, just as they dictate it for capitalization. However, if you would like to remove this option, all you need to do is head to the general settings of your smartphone to turn off auto-capitalization.

Let’s first look at a more general procedure that might work on most devices with an Android operating system. Here it is:

  • Open the Settings application on your device
  • Press on System
  • Select the Languages and Input item
  • Tap on Virtual Keyboard
  • Now tap on Gboard
  • Search for and tap on Text Correction
  • Move the toggle on the Auto-capitalization item to OFF

Please note that this setting is reversible, so the moment you want to restore auto-capitalization you can do so by following the directions above.

How to remove auto-capitalization on Samsung

Although they have an Android operating system, Samsung devices have a different keyboard than Google’s. For this reason, the settings may be different from those in the previous paragraph. Syrus, however, offers a quick and easy guide:

  • Open your phone’s Settings
  • Tap on General Management
  • Now tap on Language and Input
  • Select On-Screen Keyboard
  • Next, Samsung Keyboard
  • Tap on Smart Input
  • Move the toggle to OFF on the Auto-capitalization item

This setting is also reversible, so the moment you want to restore auto-capitalization you can do so by following the directions above. Please note, however, that if you are using the Google keyboard, the directions to follow are as given in the previous paragraph.

How to remove auto-capitalization on Huawei

Given the new updates, Huawei no longer has access to Google services and therefore, does not have the facilities presented by Gboard. The company has therefore decided to opt for Swiftkey, a Microsoft-owned setting. Here are the steps:

  • Open Settings on your device
  • Tap on System
  • Tap on Language and Input
  • Next on Swiftkey Keyboard
  • Select the Typing item
  • Move the toggle to OFF on the Initial Auto-capitalization item

Here again we have a reversible setting. As you can see even here the settings change from the previous ones, especially if you decide to use a keyboard from other vendors. In this case we recommend that you look at the settings of the downloaded keyboard to see the settings related to autocorrect.
