Usually, Android apps update automatically anytime an update is available without manual intervention. And depending on your settings, you may receive a request for permission or a notification in this regard. But if your device is not set up for automatics downloads, then you will need to do the downloading and installation of your software manually.

First, you need to verify which Android’s version your phone has. In order to know this, open “Settings” on your smartphone, go to “Advanced” options, then select “System Update” and there you will see your current version and security level of your Android. Even after all this verification, its possible for you to miss an Android Update, and you may be needing to check the settings options of this App on your smartphone to enable it there.

Now, lets get start with your vehicle updating first, for which there is very little to actually do. Basically, it will need maintenance to run the latest software that enables the Android Auto platform. If doing this update become an issue, just take your car with a dealership’s technician to ensure your dashboard system is running efficiently.

Android Auto update in your smartphone

Switching now to your smartphone, in case of your device isn’t set up for automatic downloads, this is what you have to do:

  1. Open Google Play Store
  2. Type Android Auto on the search field.
  3. Click Android Auto in the search results.
  4. Click on

Sometimes it could happen that you hear about a new Android Auto update that your phone doesn’t have it yet. This could be solved connecting your device to your car which should result switching to the newer version available. If this doesn’t work, you can try forcing the update in the app settings following these steps:

  1. Open your Android Auto app on your smartphone.
  2. Tap the Menu icon in the upper left corner.
  3. Click on “Settings”.
  4. In the General section look for “Try the new Android Auto” and switch the button.

If you don’t see this option, probably you have a version of Android Auto that can’t receive the update or is not available, cause this feature only appears when there is a new beta or update version that hasn’t been launched to everyone yet.

If after following all these instructions your software still don’t update, maybe your Android Auto is already up to date and all what you need is looking for the number in the Version Section of your Setting’s app. If the number or your Android Auto version is higher, the one you have is actually more updated, otherwise if you’re stuck on an older version you may have a compatibility issue between your smartphone and the latest version of this software.

Following our recommendations, you should be able to update your Android Auto successfully. But if you still have some troubles then contact your car’s dealership or your phone manufacturer for more information.
